Gillian 'not so' Lucky vs The 'Silver Fox'
« on: April 12, 2005, 02:16:09 PM »
Ok people, I'm sure you've heard this story by now...

Both Gillian Lucky and Dr. Fuad Khan have opted to become independent senators...over a fallout with regards to the now infamous tea-cup to head incident.

Now, I'm not a political person (HATE ALL PARTIES IN TRINIDAD & TOBAGO!!!!!!!!), but enough is enough.

So Ms. Lucky doesn't agree with something Mr. Panday wants done.  Shouldn't it be her CHOICE!?!?!  Is there an unwritten law that once you're part of a political party, you MUST do as you're told, regardless of how wrong it seems?  Mr. Panday accuses her of not being a 'team player'.  The killer line was "politics has a morality of its own".  Riiiiiight.

This is just a sad time for politics in TnT.

As i've said before, voting in this country is like a choice of "getting shot" or "getting chopped".  CHOOSE!

lol @ gettin shot or getting chopped.

what was all the fuss about?

she found the tea cup throwing incident to be trivial and not worth court time?

clue me in. Obviously haven't spent enough time at www.guardian.co.tt lol

Its been a sad time for a long time , not gonna see me voting anytime soon.

The "Silver Fox" is a power hungry mc, and has proven it time and time again. He will do anything sell himself to the public. Having a opposition leader like Mr Panday isnt accomplishing anything which leads to a majority of the blame being put on the ruling party for lack of growth in the country.  Reminds me of a comic a few year ago in the Blast newspapers with Mr Manning talking and Mr Panday exclaiming "I OPPOSE I OPPOSE".

didn't he say he was going to resign if he lost the election ( and lose he did) ?

it would appear that the current system we have means that if you're in the Opposition, all you do is oppose the govt; whatever the merits of the proposal, you don't care.. once nuthin gets done, you happy, until the day you get into power.. then you gonna propose the same thing.. and the opposition will  oppose it..   case in point : the CCJ..  was proposed under the previous administration.. now it's time for the govt of tt to implement legislation to make it apply to us.. , but bas say 'NO' cuz we need 'constituitional reform'.. right..  my eye...    his agenda comes first..

sigh.. those damned CHILDREN.....

ahhhhhhhhh disciple has said the same thing i've been preachin' all the time.  Being in opposition DOES NOT MEAN you should just adopt an opposite view to ANY and EVERYTHING!!  So very childish indeed.

From the way things looking, Lucky, Khan and now Yetming will be in the 'political cemetery' pretty soon.  Joining the likes of Hulsie Bhagan, Carlos John, Ramesh Maraj and his sidekick...forgot his name.

Oppose the leader, get the boot!

The way TT is,the Opposition really has nothing to do but "say no".It was the same when PNM was opposition as well.
It all comes back to the two party system. If there were more influential parties then parties would become more acquainted with compromising with each other as coalition governments would be a constant reality.

Maybe we should just go like the US.Keep the houses separate in elections from the election of a leader. It might help.

Hmmm, I seem to recall the last time some one thought like that....Ramesh anyone?

and as it turned out (typical trini-style), they wave and support d man prior to elections, and come ballot day, what happened?

Nuff said.  We ARE partially to blame for allowing corruption to not only live, but GROW in our political system.

fuh real.

The problem is, how to combat this.

NAR did it once and yet somehow they managed to fall by the way side a few years after.

What went wrong?

NAR did it once due to mass fed-up-ness with the PNM and a coalition. A third party cannot survive Trinidad's political landscape without a coalition. As such, there is little hope for any third party to make a dent in the next elections. This new party being rumored about lately will do little better than the Citizen's Alliance did the last time around.

There is a party trying to get off the ground headed by someone who was once part of the UNC...some part of the party's legal arm...I never heard of him before now though. I will see if I can find the name of the guy, it was in the Guardian over the weekend I believe it was.

But seriously...third parties don't stand much of a chance here. The strongest we've got is the remnants of the NAR and they can't even keep a seat in Tobago anymore. Even worse considering Tobago was their only remaining strength over the last few years.

Yeah, that's pretty scary.

The only hope maybe for all the well intentioned people from within the existing parties to form their own.

And call it the United Peoples National Congress Movement

   P
UNC  for short.
  M

That should have enough clout to take the polls.
