S.T.A.L.K.E.R. : the next big FPS?
« on: February 12, 2005, 01:03:02 AM »
Half Life II has come and gone , Halo II failed to impress , other than quake IV  STALKER might be the next big FPS ......  It claims to be revolutionary in that it breaks from the traditional linear FPS and gives you a more open ended RPG style universe to roam in  , with an FPS interface .  Also ,  instead of another cliche story and setting where aliens are/have attacked earth and the player takes the role of humanity's saviour , we have  a story about the aftermath of the chernobyl accident , a countryside ravaged with mutants and strange phenomena  ... and the player is no more special than any other NPC in the game.
The engine also looks impressive , i doubt it will match up to the Source engine or Doom III's , but it will be fun to play with and probably be seen again in a sequel or another FPS .
   http://www.stalker-game.com/index_eng.html

It (should) come out for PC this year , and rumours of it bieng developed for the PS3 /Xbox II are rampant .

i go find myself playing F.E.A.R more than S.T.A.L.K.E.R , i sure many can agree with me on that :), i think fear will be the next big fps, i've seen some of the videos an thing for it, looks good :), and for those action loving fans who will find STALKER a bit boring then FEAR is definitely for you :)

Something lookin wrong with STALKER, and I wouldn't be surprised if they announced (like Molyneaux did with Fable) that they won't be able to deliver everything they promised.

They delayed the game for about the fourth time last week. This game was supposed to be released alongside/before Far Cry, and now it won't be released till July-Sept thereabouts.

Kinda sad, because this is the game I was looking forward to even more than any other last year.

FEAR looks great too  , the graphics and especially the use of physical combat .
Half life II was supposed to be released in 2003 ... so was Doom III... Its better to get a great game late than a half asses game full of bugs and lazy shortcuts .
I myself have gotten tired of nonsensical shooters.. we have more than enough of them  ( PAINKILLER , serious sam , halo , unreal tournament, doom, quake.....  ) .  I'd think alot of other people would have too  , its time for FPS games to take a step forward and gain some depth.... whether it be linear or open ended..... i'm sick of running around shooting everything that moves....

Thing about Doom 3 and HL2 is that we were seeing (plenty) full gameplay clips. We knew that the games were almost done. This one...not so.
