Was getting problems with p2p apps when i now set up my dsl. Which was a big pain btw. Then thanks to a message from shareaza, i went on an expedition to try and improve the download and searching speed of my p2p apps.
Port forwarding has since made a big difference, they have pretty indepth guides for most make and model of dsl router/modem.
I got the efficient networks speed stream 5200 from tstt.
www.portforward.com
Great great great help
Just passing a lil 'fo around.

How would you go about enabling port forwarding for starcraft 6112-6119? I mean, what's the last part about entering some ip addy? Do you use your cpu's own ip there?
It doesn't work for me.

depends on what router yu have imperial
if craft is using 6112 to 6119 then yu enter that in the port forwarding but remember, craft uses UDP not tcp. so u have to select udp as the protocol.
yu must first set a static ip for your machine.
your static ip will be the ip assigned by dhcp from tstt.
just put the ip sub net gate way and dns settings from the auto assigned ones from tstt, as yur static options.
Choose the ports yu want to forward for udp traffic and yur good to go

Pnat or port forwarding or port masquerading or w/e new terms out there, it's pretty good for when u're using the router set as nat, likewise u gonna need a firewall on your computer if u did dnat though.

I dispute that comment about the best book...the best books are the Cisco Academy series...Essentials 2 for beginners, CCNA 1 2 3 and 4 so far I'm on sem 3 and they are great...the "for dummy" books just make you think you know something and then a real problem comes and you don't know crap. No offense, but if you want real knowledge you have to put in real effort.

Hey...hey you...I can help....*whispers*
Ok, here's the deal...I don't know how this will work on DSL, but it should be the same...A friend of mine used this to surpass Cox Cables maximum calculated bandwidth (this was more than they thought was possible, even after breaking the cap) I believe he got 10 Mbps on Cox Cable in the US. Anyhow, alot of time is spent waiting for a dns server to translate your dns for you...you have to wait for other people...so if you set up your own dns server on your own home network you will speed up your connection in certain areas. Now areas that don't require dns translation will not benifit from this, but it's worth a try. This man did so well with this that Cox gave him a phone call and they were quite mad because they thought he was doing something illegal...he showed them what he did and now they have a higher maximum calculated bandwidth. (Keep in mind this is all effective bandwidth, you gain no true bandwidth, but rather cut down on unnecessary waiting on the server to resolve hostnames to ip addresses)
Oh and by the way, I have a speedstream 5100 and the ip address is 10.10.10.1, by default it has the ssh port open. I'm still working on accessing the command line on this dang thing. That kind of hack may also reward you with extra bandwidth, i.e. changing connection settings, etc. Routers are fun toys to play with.

Larry, that is the lan connection, not the internet speed you looking at there.
If that was for real, then I was coming to live in your office tonight self!

LOL
if its not the LAN connection, then its the interaction of router or modem interfaces wit the connection
and states a connection rate of 100Mbps
