Microsoft kid wants Gates' job

And he is only eight

By Nick Farrell: Thursday 13 January 2005, 07:06
EIGHT YEAR old computer whiz-kid Ajay Puri has told his local paper that when he grows up he wants to be Bill Gates, "only better". The precocious kid, who lives in Bangkok, is well on the way to at least working for the Vole.

At nine months old, he was tapping his ABC onto the computer and was using it properly by the time he was two.

Microsoft employees were so impressed with him they gave him a copy of Frontpage to play with and he turned out www.microsoftkid.com. At five, he passed the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) core level examination, scoring 98 per cent and becoming the youngest person to pass the examination. He went on to achieve the Expert Level, scoring 93 per cent.

According to his site Ajay has actually met Gates, although there was no indication as to what his cunning plans were to topple him.

Certainly if he did take over there would be a massive change in policy from the Vole.

Ajay is quoted by the Bangkok Post as saying: "I have learnt the high lesson of computer not due to any fear of stick, but from the loving hand of my dear parents and the warm kisses of my dearest grandparents." So no anti-trust plans there then.

How many 5 year olds can make a webpage? Trini... dread I doh have much to say yes... I have come to expect nonesense posts from you.... also... whats to dictate what this child is capable of since he's not quite 14 yet for a comparison to the 14yr old med student. Dread just like ur benchmark comparisons this comparison was not on a level ground...

i letting meh bro enjoy he days for now, he's now 12, so i go give him some time to enjoy the "normal" life. then is hard comp training ihmc. having someone on a computer so much at such a young age is bad in my opinion. you need to at least live some of yuh life when you young yes, dem is days you go never get back. go never have the energy to do what you could have done at that age, etc.

i feel sorry for that boy :(

Indeed. Bona fide genious, is all I can say.
His site is pretty darn impressive, for a page that was designed by an eight-year old. Very bright future ahead of him, I must say.

Bill Gates, watch out!
If this boy is so smart at such a tender age, imagine just how much smarter he would be when he's OLDER....O____o;;

Well then u definitely underestimate the power of the years of childhood...no money can buy that back for you, no matter what!

For proof, look at Michael Jackson...I rest my case.

I more want to see what this kid is capable of with actual programming languages...throw in some C++ and see what he's capable of...and programming skill isn't what made Bill so powerful anyway, it was his ability to see an opportunity and take it to his advantage...

I will give props to the lil boy....had to be an Indian chile though, that's one place that seriously has potential for software development,

#1 Intelligence isn't everything. Wisdom is. And no, intelligence does not equate to wisdom. But wisdom does infer intelligence.

#2 Intelligence comes in many different forms. You can't directly compare comp field to say medical or music...or psychology, etc.

#3 What trini was trying to indicate was that a child in that age group are like the Borg in that they assimilate just about anything there senses can get a hold of. Each generation seems to produce even more voracious learners than the previous. So you can "force" perceived genius if you really wanted. That said the 14 year old in medical school CAN'T be forced...something like that takes true genius. Have to be careful to distinguish. True geniuses can mantain that level throughout their lives.

#4 The benefits of having a normal childhood is too underestimated. I agree with ramp and SPK totally on this point.

#5 Ever wonder what happens to the tons of child genius' noted every year? How come we never see them in news for some great breakthrough? The answer is Creativity. Thats what truly differentiates intelligent beings and sparks progress. Its creativity that allows us so many choices today.
And you don't have to be intelligent to be creative; actually more often than not its the below average or average thats the ones.

I'll take creativity (and wisdom) over genius any day.

Lastly, Hardwork Can Overcome Genius! (couldn't resist the Naruto reference)

Just imho.

Wisdom isn't everything.....good table manners is everything....just ask your mother.

#2 Intelligence comes in many different forms. You can't directly compare comp field to say medical or music...or psychology, etc.

Very true....Prof Hoawrd Gardner who gave a lecture at UWI recently said as much and went on to describe at least 9 types of intelligence. Prof H Gardner is a world reknown authority on the intelligence theories of Social and Developmental psychology. Plus he's a snazzy dresser.

...Each generation seems to produce even more voracious learners than the previous. So you can "force" perceived genius if you really wanted. That said the 14 year old in medical school CAN'T be forced...something like that takes true genius. Have to be careful to distinguish. True geniuses can mantain that level throughout their lives

I disagree with the saying the 14 year old Med student cannot be forced. If you are stating that one type of intelligence can be forced then why not the rest? FYI i happen to know of at least 2 case studies conducted by UCLA where 5 groups of twin infants in a longitudinal study were exposed to different academic settings under specially constructed environments. The researches found that the infants in control group A who were "forced" geniuses performed effectively in alternate and unrelated areas of intelligence. data retrival centred, bodily-kinetic, mathematic, grammatical and digital-linear. (your med student would fall under DRC). This meaning they can more aptly remember vast amounts of information. So you can indeed cultivate the mental capacity known as "genius" in the DRC field.

#4 The benefits of having a normal childhood is too underestimated. I agree with ramp and SPK totally on this point.

Please define what normal is......it's so hard to tell in this millenium. But if you equate normal to NON-growin up to be michael jackson, then i agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY.

While you bring up a good point, i believe what you are bringing is mostly hearsay. Can you give us some examples of studies that have been centred on measuring the capacity of genius in relation to it's creaitivty? And for that matter, why can't genius be viewed as a measurment of creativity? do you suggest that they are separate and distinct entities?

Lastly, Hardwork Can Overcome Genius

Actually Naruto ripped that line from Aesop.....2400 years of copyright infringement!!!! Time to sue naruto's arse!
