been opened and not only will we get a new cell provider but also a new

national internet provider. So this is the question.

Will you switch?

I'd like to see a new net provider.If they come with an XBox Live compatible format that's faster than TSTT I'm all for changing.

I'm most interested in hearing what kind of Internet services they plan to offer, but I'm not really hopeful...from what I've heard TSTT will always have the advantage in lines.

Not very interested in satellite, since it's not good for gaming.

I guess running wires and putting up now poles is definitely going to be a prohibitive cost factor for anyone trying to get into our market and offer cheap phone rates and internet access.

The only thing that can really save us is a wireless solution.

Current ones are still way too expensive. As the technology gets cheaper and better, that should change. A developed local wireless network would totally shake things up!

Think a phone that worked anywhere in trinidad but for free.

wireless + VOIP has that potential.

I was speaking to an associate of mine recently, who trains TSTT workers in their training facility in Chagaramus. Imagine they have a dedicated T1 leased line there? anyways. He informed me on alot of things that most ppl do not know... take these for instance...did you know?

1. That the reason that GSM works so HORRIBLY in trinidad is becuase of beaurocratic nonsense (aka TSTT management) who refuse or rather could not all agree to free up more time slots in thier OWN network so that we could ACTUALLY get thru on a friday evening?

2. TSTT is a very disorganised company (I bet u figure this but thats all). All of their depts do NOT communicate with each other so when u have ur engineers designating a cell repeater stations site in one particular location and ur upper management decides to buy a piece of land somewhere else cause its CHEAPER u send ur guys Tobago and have then call and ask, so where's this antenna u put up? cause its not here!

3. This country has TREMENDOUS bandwidth... TSTT is using all of 20% or something like that and charging us HIGH rates just cause they can... (I know u know they charge us for shitty service but read on), Basically noone in the world makes money for owning a line, but rather for using the line. So TSTT charges us for USE of their services not really for them owning the line (if this is confusing, I thought so to kinda at first when he told me this too.)

4. For those of you using aDSL, you could easily throttle the bandwith you have to 256, 512 even a T1 aDSL line by making a few small adjustments at the junction boxes? imagine that, also that there are apparently many who's who's (not even TSTT management though apparently) who get FREE aDSL T1 lines? Imagine that, given more to the already fortunate ppls who can AFFORD IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

5. Management in TSTT don't believe in proper training for their field engineers? they apparently don't see teh need for them to do things like cnet+ and cisco certification... then they wonder why their workers can't set up their own firewalls and crap in some cases.

Now ppl the things I have said here could be true or false for some, that maybe workign TSTT, but this is what I was told by the man TRAINING their workers. HE knows his crap Msc in comms and stuff a very intelligable guy. He knows they doh believe in further training their employees cause he put fwd the idea and they gave him a thumbs Down. If u think what I have written is not true then voice ur opinion and say why maybe I can get back to him and put those questions fwd to him. As for the original question of this thread, yes I would go digicel IFF (for those ppls who don't know what that means, IF and ONLY IF aka IFF) their service proves better. My TDMA nokia 3360 quite possibly saved my life and the life of 29 or so odd other ppl this weekend, so I not gonna slam TSTT on that. Whilst everyone else could not make calls on their GSM phones. SO thank GOD and I am sure ppl thank me that I had my phone there (Down the islands is where we were).

now Wintry is making some sense, and so is Shin, trini's are lazy, so switching may not be an option for me, simply for these reasons
1. what's systems are being used for the new phone companies coming answer? TSTT's

2. who's creating/making the hardware and overheads for the new companies? answer? TSTT

3. who is local? Tstt

4. did anyone ever think that all tstt has to do is lower their rates just a little and increase the quality of their sevice (which isn't that hard when they seed the monetary gains in doing this from the competition) because they have to charge the new companies for the lease/rental of their overheads, they inadvertantly control their competitors prices also?

and finally 5....trini's too lazy to switch, watch and see

imagine i went barbados spent US$65 and got a nokia 6830 from digicel
