How you feel about Abandonware?

Note: Not all old games are abandonware and trading abandonware is considered illegal by some. So doh put any links and thing on the thread.
A lot of companies that used to make games that you thought was the bomb back in the day either give up on the games, or the games get so old that they figure they not going to get no $ off of it no more.
That kinda stuff is abandonware.
And there's a lot of it. Most abandonware sucks, some of it is good and then you have the rare gem that men used to sweat in the comp labs in school every time they could trick the teacher into thinking that they have a valid reason to be in the lab.
Some of them used to be cutting edge graphics and ting, but now when you look back it looks like crap. Some were just great gaming experiences for one reason or another back in the day, and are good for a trip down memory lane.
Wish I still had One Must Fall, Scorched Earth (I have a later version called blast doors somewhere), Syndicate and Pagan.
Yuh still remember them games? Yuh still have any of the oldies on your computer? It have any you wish you still had?

i love abandonware , brings back great memories from the good ol' days when story in an RPG was put before graphics , there were few bugs to worry about . Games like Final Fantasty 3, Seiken Densetsu 3 , metroid etc. still put out better gameplay than most modern games .
Also its a part of history , and it gives you an idea of what to expect in the future.... If you played Doom I or II you would have known exactly how the gameplay in doom III would have been , most games just repeat past titles instead of innovating completely...

abandonware is great stuff, but for me it sometimes hard to go back to because of the later 3d versions of the game. the newer, better, sweeter versions does pull me in more. but if it have something in the abadoned game that i really liked or is a serious classic then i go definitely be into it

Yeah I know the 3d scorch, is called blast doors and it is true abandonware. It even have a place offering to let you play it multiplayers if yuh pay them to play.
(Even though the page where they telling you to pay to play say "Fred Says: Blast Doors was originally designed for the Total Entertainment Network. Unfortunately, the game networks are discovering that their profit margins are smaller than they had hoped. As a consequence BD got dumped when bigger games like Diablo and Quake came down the pike.
Their loss is your FREE GAME.
http://www.fiends.com/Index/Blast.jsp)
Then they's turn around and tell you to pay $15 US.
Rampage yeah the 3d versions with the better graphics are the death of abandonware, but there's a lot of titles that just died. And like Trini....-....Gamez say the gameplay is sometiems so much better it's no contest. It really makes you wonder why modern games are costing so much.

well yeah, companies spending time with the graphics, sound etc and leaving gameplay for last. is only so few companies that really concentrate on a good story and gameplay and most of the companies doesnt use their own engine, eg: id. id have their doom3 engine and they spend real time on graphics, sound, everything else but story an thing. nothing new in gameplay either. but we have some special companies who can have their own engine + have good story + gameplay. eg: valve. but then again valve using havoc engine for phsyics if i remember correctly

There was this awesome RPG that was released as "free to the public" as a "marketing" strategy to hype up the upcoming release of its sequel.
It was a gem by Sierra/Dynamix called Betrayal at Krondor. Heralded by some as the best RPG at the time. A first-person 3D RPG at that. (This was back in 1993/1994)
I thought this was a brilliant move and would bring some quality games to the masses for free.
Though still not out of IP protection and into the realm of abandonware just yet.
Just figured it would go hand in hand with the abandonware movement.
