The Junk Art Thread!

I just thought that I should start something new here, and really break some ground in the Showcase thread.
You may be wondering, 'Just what is the Junk Art thread all about?'
Well, basically, if you've got a piece of artwork that screams 'work-in-progress' or just seems to lack those finishing touches that you just can't quite put your finger on, you can post it here, and see what other people have to say, before it's actually done.

Of course, if it's some scrap artwork that you have no intention of finishing, but feel deserves some criticism and its own 'five minutes of fame', then feel free to post it here.

To sum it up, this is what you can post here in the Junk Art Thread:
- Character Sketches
- Models/Poses for characters yet to be done
- Concept Sketches/Art
- Scrap Artwork
- Artwork you feel is not done yet
- Copy book doodles that has potential

Fair warning, however to potential spammers...despite the fact that this is the 'Junk Art thread' and seemingly gives the green light to any and ALL types of unfinished drawings or doodles, be warned that mindless etches and blatant posting of images that show no effort or intention other than to be spam, will NOT BE TOLERATED. As always, THINK before you submit.

Yes, well, now that THAT'S out of the way, maybe I should start things off with a doodle that I did in class, that I propose to be a comic soon:



It merely started out as just another drawing of me, but the more boredom kicked in, the more I added to the sheer mayhem.
Please tell me what you think of it, and be harsh if you have to.

Well, here's to hoping I see some concept work from you guys.

well heres one of the pics that shin sagat told me to try to work on....I cleaned it up a bit(still kinda scrappy)...fixed the colouring and the line art but i cant really put my finger on the background though.....any suggestions???

With regards to the pic, Frozen, you can read the suggestions we gave ShinSagat here:

Disregard the parts about the colour scheme being horrid, you seem to have fixed that a bit (although it somewhat leaves a lot to be desired....the hair and boots in particular).
Also, long story short:
-Arms too short;
-Legs badly positioned and too thick
-Muscle structure needed.

I think you should have really given that picture an overhaul before colouring it, because despite giving it a fresh coat of paint, it is STILL plagued by the problems that we stated in the thread above. Keep trying....

people please learn muscle sturctue if u have none like me and cant look in a mirror for them here a really good trick... toys
come on evybody got an onld ninja turtle or batman somewhere right or u may be luccy evough to come across a spawn
u may not realise but action figures are a great place for muscle and because the are move able they may be even better than comics or manga

Exploding forest aminals are fun. Yes, I said aminals.

Relax, dude. We're not asking you to re-invent the wheel.
It's just that no matter what you do with the picture, those things will still stick out like a sore thumb, and may require you to do some things over.

Frozen I find the phtoshop ork to be real good but the drawing that i did really was not top notch so i doh blame it for bringin down the points i like d effects and as we was sayin u should try to add some metamorphisis effects

I have a question unrelated to the topic but when u save the files in photoshop as the jpeg..which one do u choose..baseline"standard" or baseline opttimzed or progressive?

Well to keep this thread alive a bit i decided to post a pic
I am now into cartooning(my style...that means that it has no major detail in it besides highlights midtones and shadows)
It didnt take long..about 30 mins for sketch and photoshop work..pretty simple but im now learning cartooning

Well, the colour scheme is pretty decent.
Unfortunately, I honestly can't say the same for the character.
For one, his arm surrounding his fist is too wide, it makes it look like he's a skinny guy with 'Anchor Arms' (ever saw that episode of Spongebob Squarepants?) If that's his glove, it's still too big.

Secondly, his face just gives me the creeps.
One eye is bigger than the other, his smile is extremely crooked, and his whole face is tilted in such a way that he looks like he's cricking his neck and going psycho than giving a thumbs up to the person looking at the picture.

Also.....if that's a cap on his head, it needs work. NO cap would ever come off a person's head like that. It would fit almost snugly on a person's head, unless the cap is too large, in which case it should come down lower on his head. And, to tell you the truth, I don't know whether to give this guy the thumbs up back or order Chinese from him. The cap appears too 'Mongolian headwear' to me.

Also, the clothes need more detail. And by detail, I mean folds.
Even if this guy has been on the Atkins diet, his frame would STILL show some folds in it. Also, all of the clothes he's wearing (including his shoes) look like they were made from the same material. Add shine for shoes and gloves, as well as a lining for jeans, and it would appear different to everything else.

And, once again, if this is a stickman drawing, then NO.
Stickmen are -LITERALLY- that, men composed of sticks, nothing more.
This drawing is -TOO- detailed to be a stickman.
And, as such, you should give him some mass to make him more anatomically more correct, or take OUT some of the things that is alienating him from being a stickman.

Sorry, Frozen, but that needs SERIOUS work.
Consider everything I've said, and your style would improve.
