When a Monitor goes bad ?

My monitor is showing some errors..... on startup it is VERY dark... but by the time you hit the windows logon screen it brightens up to normal. sometimes it turns milky white , and u have to keep hitting it off/on for it to go away .
  Is it going bad?

if so...... baego will be happy to tell me how much he sells a monitor like those in euro for .

it COULD be my VIDEO card has been raped.... and i'd LOVE any excuse to get a new one.  

 i'm thinking of getting a much SMALLER  monitor... mines is currantly 19inch viewable.... a  17 or even 15 inch monitor would look better on lower resolutions because of less streching.... i would be able to get more FPS AND more IQ at the same time .

the only thing that ever happen to my monitor is the circular stand it rests on broke das bout it, the only problems i have with the monitor iz related to my crappy video card.

play your games at 1024x768... das wah i does do,buh yuh doesnt see much stretchin. buh in any case, most of de times i does run game at 1600x1200 never mind de game is be a lil slower.

i DO play my games at 1024x768 , but with a 15 inch  monitor that has a max res of 1024x768  will look like 1600x1200 and play like 1024x768 .

Hoss if you have to HIT the monitor for the screen to show properly then it's not the video card.

He means hit the power button, But i was gonna tell him to do that. Trini, hit it some good lash. if that fixes the problem, your monitor has cold soldering issues. it can be fixed if the person you carry it by is good enough.

Well im rather surprised that someone actually made the link between res and stretching...and IQ...BUT,

that logic only really works well for viewing constant flowing images...like a video stream which isn't enhanced using say AA or AF...in other words the true edges are intact! (unlike in games!).

Each monitor has an "ideal res" where pixel definition is optimal given all other monitor limitations. For 15 its the lowest you can go...640x480. For 17 is 800x600 / 1024x768...and so forth.

But thats only half of it. Since image quality is highly subjective on type of monitor...for example shadow mask vs aperature grille...implementation of tech...among other factors.

Point is you'd lose more quality by having a low quality monitor than mismatching res. Unless ofcourse you do something really insane like on a 21inch you play at 640x480 or 800x600!

Btw, you only get more fps at lower res (unless you cpu is the bottleneck) Above it wasn't made clear what you were indicating.
