All righty then. I'm very glad to see that you've embarked on something new for a change, so let's see how best I can help you along:
1. First of all, the guy's arms are too short. Stand at attention with your arms to your side, and you'll see that a person's arms extend past the waist area, the fingertips extending a little past the pelvic region. With this in mind, the person's elbows are situated just below the rib cage. Use this as a guide when drawing arms.
2. One thing that caught me right away is the guy's glassy (and somewhat creepy) look in his eyes. His retinas are a bit untidy, and look jagged. What I would suggest for you is this:
1. Figure out where the eyes should go on the head.
2. Draw an outline for the eye, not including the retina or iris (think a
dude with white eyes here.)
3. Draw ovals where your character's retinas should be, and draw them
facing the direction that you want your character to look (for example, look at my avatar. I wanted him, well, ME to look at the person directly, so I drew his retinas dead centre in his right eye, and more to the left on his other eye.)
4. If colouring, fill the area with colour one time.
5. After determining eye colour (Step 4), darken the middle of the retina with black (the iris).
6. To add shine to the character's eyes, white out the area on the eye where light is being focused (check my avatar again, the upper left and bottom right corner of his eye is whited out).
And there you have it.
3. The colouring of the guy's hair needs work. If you want to depict strands or a mass of hair, make use of the smudge tool and tones. Create shadow and light on the hair, and use the smudge tool to stretch the shading across, to make it look like more than one strand. Also, use lighter tones and white to make shine, and use the smudge tool to blend it in.
Okay, maybe if I stopped babbling a bit and actually SHOW you what I mean.
Why, yes. I AM shamelessly promoting myself, thanks for asking.......
As you can see, I've carried out several layers of shading on Kimi's head, and used the smudge tool to make it blend in. The white areas in her hair indicate shine, and, once again, the smudge tool works wonders there, too. Feel free to use this as a guide when you wish to do hair colouring.
3. The guy also needs a substantial facial structure.
His eyes are a bit low on his head, his cheeks aren't that well defined, and his jaw isn't really moulded that well either.
Some guidelines on that....
- When drawing eyebrows, note that they ALWAYS line up with the top of one's ears. You know, in a diagonal kind of way. Likewise, the bottom of a person's nose ALWAYS lines up with the base of a person's earlobes.
- Where the eyes end, the cheek immediately follows. Do NOT draw the cheek high up on the face where the eyes are.
- Also, remember that the space between a character's eyes is about the length of the character's eye. Try to remember this so the eyes will not appear too big or close together.
4. With regards to the folds in clothing, it's not really all that hard once you get used to it. Just remember, when clothes fold, shade what is hidden away from the light source, and indicate lines where the exact fold is located. Also, remember the contours of the body that these folds are resting, so as to indicate how well the clothes fit on the person's body, as well as how that person's body is shaped (in the case of tight clothing).
Well, that's my two cents.
Consider it the next time you draw, and keep on practising!
Well, later....

Glad I could be of service, guvnah!
Now go forth and MULTIPL-(ahem) oh, uhm. Sorry. Wrong script.
(hands an infuriated God back his script)
....what I
meant
to say was....
Go forth and draw like you've never drawn before!
WARNING: Complete and utter BS ahead!!
Mr. Ed: .....but wouldn't that
technically
mean that he'll go and draw as if he never actually
drew
something before?
Me: O_o;;;
Hey. I'm on a roll here.
Roll: Get off of me! (tosses NEO off with a Judo toss)
Me: X_x Ow.
Mr. Ed: Har! How did that FEEL, young 'un?
Me: Oh, shut up before I haul your ass to the glue factory.
Today's nonsense was brought to you today by the letters 'F' and 'U', by the number '3' (which is how many coconuts I've hit my head with today) and by the vegetable 'asparagus', simply because it's good for yo-

Oh, I wouldn't say 'mean' exactly.
More along the lines of ' constructive criticism'.
You see, it's only by being completely frank and honest about our interpretation can we truly help the artist asking 'What do you guys think of my work?' Even if that interpretation will rub off as 'mean', it will still inspire the artist to do better to appease his critics.
And, with all due respect to laertes, it's WAY too easy to tell somebody 'Keep on trying, you'll get better with practice.' True, it DOES encourage the artist to keep on pushing, but what EXACTLY are you telling the person to push himself/herself in? To tell you the truth, it's a complement, nothing more.
To tell you the truth, it's only by telling people what we like and/or what we hate about a piece of work that they did will they
ever
become better. And as a piece of advice to EVERYBODY out there, don't EVER expect EVERYBODY to instantly fall in love with your work and sugar-coat their comments all for the sake of making you feel good about yourself.
That, my friends, will set you up for BIG disappointment later on.
There will always be at least ONE person out there who will have a different viewpoint on how your work appears to him to how it appears to you.
In other words, what may look like a masterpiece worthy of hanging in a museum to you, may look like crayon scribbles to others. No, of course I'm not saying that you must appease everybody out there. Once you're satisfied at what you did, that's really what matters. But, mind you, the opinions of others and what they have to say is important.
That is basically how I got where I am today.
I took my harshest criticisms, and tried that much harder the next time around. And the result is? I became better at what I did, or tried to do.
Take a look at these two pictures that I did:
Now, which in your opinion is the better picture?
Personally, I wouldn't blame you one BIT if your choice was the second picture. The first picture was my very first attempt in Adobe Photoshop, before I learned any of the fancy bells and whistles that you could do with the program. I did it of course, as a tribute to one of my fanfiction characters, Roll X. And, at the time, I thought it was the hottest thing since sliced bread.
Apparently, that's not what other people thought.
They stated that the background was horrible, the outlines of the character were badly done, and the stool and it's shadow did NOT match the rest of the picture.
And you know what? By letting me know all of that, I knew what I had to do the next time. Sure, it seemed 'mean' at first, but then I realised that these people just wanted to see me do better next time. And I thank them all for that brutal honesty,as harsh as it was.
Now, let's move on to the present.
The second picture was done just last week, and once again, features my fanfiction character, Roll X. As you can see, I've improved a lot since then, learning from tutorials and what people have told me in the past to do what you see before you. The shading is a bit more appropriately done (the Satin tool helps GREATLY with night time scenes), and I'm learning new things about poses and emotions every day. To tell you the truth, Roll X looks a bit angry in this one, but I suppose that's her 'justice' side showing this time around. But I digress.
All the matter is, that sometimes, being mean helps people.
It practically wakes them up to what may potentially be wrong with the picture, and inspires them, sometimes out of frustration, to appease their fickle critics. Once again, don't believe that ALL pictures are going to be roses, that is up to you, and the people that view your work. Just keep trying your hardest, learn from your mistakes, and DISREGARD all comments that will NOT help you. Sure, complements are good, but if you posted up a work that you think you need help in, how does it help? A simple comment like 'It's nice, don't change a thing' would do and all, because you're in a way, still helping out the artist by clearing up his doubt.
So, that's enough ranting from me.
Please continue to post your 'junk art' here, as well as your comments and suggestions. [/rant]
EDIT: WHOOPS. I thought this was the 'Junk Art' thread, when in fact, it's not. My bad.

Sith, I LOVE that sig.
One thing, though, you might want to save it on 'Maximum' quality next time (you know, when you saved it as a JPEG file), because, you know, I'm seeing a little parallax in the picture there. You should always try to save on that setting, or a tad lower if it's going to cross 200K (which rarely happens, unless the pic is extremely detailed or large).
Also, you can add to the sig by putting a little something extra....I know, I know, simplicity is always best, but maybe just something to give it that final touch.....perhaps a catch phrase or your name, perhaps?

Probably just the colour scheme. Green used like that causes ad nauseum.
Other than that, don't change a thing. It's pretty cool.
