Blame the game for the method (if that much), not the motive. He would have
killed either way.

The papers in UK (namely one called "The Metro") are reporting that the
killer was desperate because he owed money to drug dealers.

Seriously though, they have a point. I've killed 4 people since beating the
game.

is reporting that the parents of a murdered 14 year old boy in
Leicester, UK back in February are putting part of the blame on Manhunt,
the 2003 violent stealth action game from Rockstar. The parent, who said
the 17 year old who pleaded guilty to the murder Wendnesday was obsessed
with the game, called for a ban of all violent video games. However, a
statement from the UK's Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers'
Association said that Manhunt should not be associated with this incident.

you've got a point.

I even became morally stronger just from running through the quest for
glory series as a paladin and playing ultima games

guess they're right, seems games can have an effect on the human psych.

A videogame can't make a good person bad, or a sane person unstable.

That fella was a latent psycho living a life of crime. Manhunt simply gave
him a method for his madness. If it wasn't Manhunt, it woulda be some movie,
some comic book, or even more likely, some graphic report on the evening
news.

Videogames and mature gamers shouldn't have to pay for the crimes of
untreated psychopaths.

Ironic thing is, according to the newspaper report, the police considered
and discounted the role of the videogame, and it hasn't played any key part
in the trial at all.

my point exactly.

just goes to show that ultra violent gory media (guess what, that
includes games) like this should be kept out of the hands of young,
impressionable kids.

It can create psychos and at the very least, fuel them.

Yeah but kayode it may not make a good person bad but it can encourage
them.

Its like this, you now see matrix movie right, so you go home and trying
out the moves on your little brother. Both of allyuh running sideways
along the fence and trying all kinda flips breaking you back an thing.
All these things does encourage you and make it seem so "Easy".

So it may not make a good person bad, but it can surely make him try
things that he may never thought of doing. Kayode and the rest of you
old so you aint go think/try them kinda thing. But when you young and
you see something cool you does wanna try it, and it encourages you big
time.

You a wrestling fan an thing, if you so happen to get in a fight, it go
encourage you to try a thing on him. I mean if you had never play a
wrestling game before/see wrestling, you wouldn't try to powerbomb
someone onto a desk. Or pick up a chair and beat him with it. I know it
sounds crazy but this is what happening in the world today. Generations
change, movies and games affect us a lot more than it use to do with
you'll back in the days.

And I know the game is rated M, and a 17yr old shouldn’t even be playing
it. But we all know that those kind of games are the real "shiznit".
Most mortal kombat games rated M not so? I sure most youths play that
game already, and does get on bad in it. Rating means nothing yes,
atleast not in this world. Rating is just a company excuse for when they
getting charge by someone they can say well "you know this is rated M
and he had no reason to be playing that sought of game at his age".
Technically they are right, but when you young...they are wrong :)

yup, with the blood and gibs disabled.

same for serious sam 2 (they were nice enough to include an option that
replaces the blood splashes with flowers, lol) and unreal 2004

hardly a gorefest.

you could bet he won't be playing ManHunt and Hitman Contracts. Scary
business.

agreed

we've come a long way from those Clint Eastwood westerns.

Nah Kayode I disagree...Video games does affect your psyche. And movies. So they can make you do things you might not normally do.

Take for instance...NFS Underground. Drive that for a few hours and then have to make a spin somewhere in your car......I guarantee you, you will FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED.

Yeah but you beat up all your girl friends, their friends, their friends
friends and their dogs.

Bad influence of rap iymc

The way I see it, the less negative influences promoted to status quo,
the better.

Giving the bad ones the bad press they deserve goes a long way in doing
that.

Actually I agree with Kayode, if you don't have a firm foothold in
reality, you won't need much stimuli to bring out the psychopath in you.
There are people who go with the flow and those who naturally oppose it,
people who are compulsive and people who are not, people who are easily
influenced by their peers, music, video games, evening news and movies
etc and people who are sane enough to differentiate between fantasy and
reality. Case in point, myself. I have been listening to "gangsta" rap
exclusively between the ages of 11-18 and I don't go around calling
women bitches and ho's or using profanity in every sentence, In fact, I
thought cussing (outside of repeating the lyrics) was common minded and
lame,

Like Kayode, I think it depends on the person. Any sane/normal person
should be able to differentiate between fantasy and reality, what he
should do in RL and what he should only do in a video game. The guy was
a loony to start with, the game didn't make him a loony. People would
blame anything they can to cover up their own short comings. A drowning
man will grab a twig in his attempt to stay afloat.
