I don't know if I'm the only one, but I've been watching quite a lot of G4 and I have to admit, it's better than the channel it replaced.

The best of Tech TV (minus CFH at least) is still there. X-Play, Screensavers, Fresh Gear and The Tech Of.

G4 has added quite a few decent shows to the mix...along with some that are...weak.
 
Icons is the best in my opinion. It's an excellent hour-long series that runs down the careers of some of the greatest videogame personalities, creators, companies, consoles and series, a la Titans of Tech or Headliners and Legends. Good stuff man. Not comical or low-browed at all. Mature documentary style with interviews from around the industry etc. So far I've seen them do Gameboy (with extensive stuff about the guy behind the system), Sonic and his creator Yuji Naka, EA (which was great), and some other developer. Can't wait to see them do Hideo Kojima or the man himself Shigeru Miyamoto. Miyamoto go HADDA be a two or three-parter.


Judgement Day is basically a more mature X-Play with two guys who debate their views of the game, as well as peripherals. Cynically humorous, sometimes edgy, probably better than X-Play.


The Pulse is a decent weekly hour-long videogame News show with two relatively entertaining hosts. Always informative, sometimes amusing. Definitely worth a watch, even if you may have already read plenty of the news online by the time it airs.

Sweat (Sweat!) is all about sports games. Looks okay, but I'm not really into sports games. Plenty athlete interviews. Looks like it fills a niche well.

Cheats is here and there. It's better for the younger folk I guess. It's all about Cheats, tips and strategy guides. I watch it because it has some of the best and longest gameplay clips of all of the shows. The host is very annoying. Very annoying.

 
Cinematheque is basically Euro TV. Clips and trailers from games old, new, and upcoming. No hosts. Just clips and trailers. There was a clip of a PC game from the mid-nineties, which should tell you how far back it goes. Decent stuff to sit back and chill with.
 
 
Arena is basically a multiplayer competitive show that pits teams against each other for prizes. It's okay.
 
 
Electric Playground is yet another review show. It's decent.


Then there's Filter, which has good content but a terrible (albeit good-looking) host. It's basically a VH1 "Top 10 List" type show, with a particular genre or category (Top Ten Basketball Games, Top Ten Trippiest Games, Top Ten Best Music), and it has the same style of irreverent interviews with industry figures and "celebrities" as the VH1 shows.

It straddles the line between pop and gaming.



"Players" crosses that line. It's more or less shit. Interviews with celebrities who play games, and a bunch of other "reality TV" stuff. I've never sat through a whole episode...it's annoying and patronising bullshit.


G4TV.Com just outta timin. Two relatively attractive young women with questionable gaming pedigrees pretending to be gung-ho gamer-girls but just looking stupid. Haven't been able to sit through a full episode of this either, but it looks like they just do previews and features.

And that's about the rundown.

 

No wait...there's a show called Portal that I saw last night for the first time. It's...WTF? No really...WTMC? Is basically some kinda weird MST3K kinda parody show that uses character models from games and puts (rarely) comical voiceovers to them to make some kinda weird dimension-hopping sci-fi fantasy saga. This is some weird shit. Would probably go good with a five-piece and two Stag, but as it is now, it belongs in that late-as-hell timeslot it's on.

I actually like G4TV.com I think it's kinda funny. I don't really watch it for the gaming factor, but more the humor between the two girls on various "gaming" topics(I think they should get rid of the guy he just doesn't fit in).

I actually hate judgement day. I think the hosts are totally inexperienced and actually don't carry that vibe that I think they should have when producing a program like that.

The news program(the name slips me) is actually very informative and is actually the program I watch the most on G4TTV. The segments that deal with games is very entertaining and the tech segments are short but satisfying.

X-Play I watch because it's probably one of the few shows on the network that have some sort of energy and effort put into it.

Icons is an instant classic. A program like this should've been around long before G4 did it. News channels and so on should've been doing these kind of documentaries a long time ago.

As for all the other programs. They're just a waste of time and I rather watch an episode of Real World or Road Rules or Spongebob Squarepants(it's sad, but they happen to show at the exact time of those shows I hate, and there really isn't anything else that's equally or more interesting on at that time )

Actually, Filter I might sit and watch according to what the theme of the countdown is.

i remember he was interviewin a group of ppl(they were all negro) and one of them gave him a comment on his watch. so the guy just start bawlin "I GOT BLING BLING,  YEA BLING BLING!"

he really made a fool outta himself...i swear those guys were sliding away from him anime style

saying g4tv sucks is an understatement
its garbage and i think the chairman of the board of tech tv who thought it was actually a GOOD idea to buy this BS has to be an idiot...
majority of the people they showed are bad hosts and arent very good gamers....they cant review games properly.....showing gameplay is poor.....the actors they bring in are more annoying and JooB than anything ive ever seen...

it was a horrible move on tech tv's part (in my opinion) its just a matter of time when they will start loosing money...

i personally liked the old tech tv as it was.but g4 have 1 or 2 good shows but not many.
esp that show g4.com those girls are making behinds out of themselves.there is no way that they can actually pass themselves off as hard core gamers.like it was said before, that guy looks like he isnt supposed to be there.hopefully things will get better in the future.

The other shows I think are so so,but the fact of the matter is I never give a thought to what those reviewers think.They can't review worth a damn.And for the original TechTV fanboys jumping up,Adam and Morgan can't review worth a damn either.
I just like to see the video clips of the games they show.

When I want a review I know where to go.

Filter seems...interesting.The only thing that even compels me to look out for it is that the host looks nice in all those cosplay outfits.I'm probably more interested in seeing the end where they morph her from one outfit to another in the credits than in seeing the show itself lol.

Icons is G4's gaming equiv. to Titans of Tech, and frankly is one of the only new shows i like that's been introduced from the G4 roster...but then i've lost my cable, so i only get to see it once inna while, but from what i've seen, i'm not that impressed overall...:?

Hmm what a mixed bag of reviews... personally I think G4 has some issues with their naming, it strikes me apart from the host being a bit on the dull side (not too smart not necesarily boring per say) they all have one syllable words... sweat, cheat, etc and well though the girls are kinda hot i'd rather see less talking on their behalves cause damn their voices are annoying... I prefer techtv but they could keep one or two G4 titles

G4 fans may be happy, but the old TechTV viewership (all-round techies rather than pure gamers) are PISSED.

Lying about "being in negotiations" with Leo Laporte was NOT a smart move, especially when Leo has publicly stated that that is not the case.

OK i may be biased because I don't have cable. But it was a given that i would always check it out when i was over by my girlfriend and right now it now worth it so much to flip to that channel.
