Better burning performance..if you can.
« on: June 18, 2004, 01:26:51 PM »
HI all.I did some benchmarks of burning 2 CD"s @ the same time using Nero 6 Ultra Edition. Here are the results>>>>>>>

*USING 2 DRIVES ONE ONE CABLE>ANTEC COBRA ATA133 CABLE*
Writing speed: 40x
Media used: Verbatim Datalife 1x-48x
Drive: Maxtor 60GB ATA133 w/2MB Buffer on ATA133 RAID 0 (by itself)

LG GCC 4480B 48x24x48x16 CD/DVD:
Time: 9:58 (9mins,58secs)
Data type: Video files varying 1-8mb in size
Size: 694MB
*First compilation to be burnt*

LG GCE 8400B 40x12x40 CDRW
Time: 9:50 (9mins,50secs)
Data type: .mp3 files varying 1-5mb in size
Size: 692MB
*Second compilation to be burnt - roughly 3 secs after first*

*USING 2 DRIVES ON ONE CABLE>SILVER ROUNDED ATA133 CABLE FROM The Wizz*
Writing speed: 40x
Media used: Verbatim Datalife 1x-48x
Drive: Maxtor 60GB ATA133 w/2MB Buffer on ATA133 RAID 0 (by itself)

LG GCC 4480B 48x24x48x16 CD/DVD:
Time: 7:54 (7mins,54secs)
Data type: Video files varying 1-8mb in size
Size: 694MB
*First compilation to be burnt*

LG GCE 8400B 40x12x40 CDRW
Time: 8:12 (8mins,12secs)
Data type: .mp3 files varying 1-5mb in size
Size: 692MB
*Second compilation to be burnt - roughyl; 3 secs after first*

*USING 2 DRIVES ON SEPARATE CHANNELS AND CABLES>ANTEC AND SILVER CABLE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED*
Writing speed: 40x
Media used: Verbatim Datalife 1x-48x
Drive: Maxtor 60GB ATA133 w/2MB Buffer on ATA133 RAID 0 (by itself)

IDE 1 - Silver cable
LG GCC 4480B 48x24x48x16 CD/DVD:
Time: 4:10 (4mins,10secs)
Data type: Video files varying 1-8mb in size
Size: 694MB
*First compilation to be burnt*

IDE 2 - Antec Cobra cable
LG GCE 8400B 40x12x40 CDRW
Time: 4:16 (4mins,16secs)
Data type: .mp3 files varying 1-5mb in size
Size: 692MB
*Second compilation to be burnt - roughyl; 3 secs after first*

System specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
512MB PC2100 RAM
Maxtor 60GB ATA133 w/2MB Buffer
MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU
Windows Xp Professional (SP1 not installed)
LG 40x12x40 CD-RW
LG 48x24x48x16 CD/DVD Combo drive

So it shows that burning at the same time with burners on seprate channels yields better performance than the drives on the same channel burning @ the same time.I think a RAID 0 array would improve perf.>>>>>To come in time...

*Just thought this might be useful to some people so I posted it..plus i was bored*  :?

try copyin the files back to the hard drive and give results of that. i fine dat readin speeds does be slower dan burnin speeds even tho it claim to have a higher readin speed or just about de same.

I'll get the results of copying to HDD soon. The test wasn't meant to show that I have a problem.I expected that I would get a slower burning time since the HDD was under alot of load (mp3's and video files burning @ the same time). That 4min+ time was expected. When I burn 40x by itself i get around 3min+.No higher that 3:30mins I think. So everything is okI was just showing what would happen if you was to burn 2 compilaions at the same time.
