CoD uses pixel shaders for water and shellshock blur effects... OpenGL does not have them ....

is been on the net.. not very highlighted though

Since the last report we have also been active with our Pixel Shader investigations. We now have a working pass-through implementation that allows us to pass pre-translated fragment programs into OpenGL. The next step here is for us to translate the D3D pixel shaders into OpenGL fragment programs, trying to support as many of the shader language versions as possible on the existing OpenGL fragment program specification. We will be working on refining this for inclusion into WineX as well as working proactively to address some of the limitations of the proposed OpenGL 2.0 specs for fragment programs, making it a better translation target for D3D shaders version 2.0 and up.

CoD uses OpenGL but fragments of D3D in order to use pixel shaders.

but if its translated to opengl, then it stills runs off opengl and not dx9. the fragments may be based on dx9 but runs off opengl. anyhow you take it, is opengl. if it was direct dx9 shaders then they wouldnt be using translations for opengl

this is from an interview with infinity ward chief creative officer:

NVIDIA: What kinds of tweaks have you made to the Return to Castle Wolfenstein/Quake III engine for Call of Duty?

VZ: We've basically replaced everything except the menu system and the network code. Also we've heavily modified the editor and the shader language. The short list is: AI, scripting language, render, visibility system, terrain system, vehicle system, animation system, model system, fx system, and weapon system.

/me yawns
all these reviews and benchmarks are getting me bored. Until I get feedback from people who actually bought those cards off the shelf in their local or online store. All those company reviews can take a back seat.
The best advice are those you find in the comments section on Amazon and all those other online shopping sites. Where you get the real pros and cons.

actually alot of people who buy those cards say total crap about them ....

you will get one out of ten usefull reviews.. but it takes alot of searching ..

i'll call it a hybrid if i want... CoD is a HYBRID!!!

i'm sure both the new radeon cards will be able to overclock real nice.. the geforce FX6800 ultra should be a nice overclocker too.. if you got lots of fans in the case... and a powwwweeerful power supply....

well at least is not ANOTHER 5800... the 6900 will probably fix alot of nvidias problems... or the 6800 GT might... never rush to buy anything new.. wait and see what happens..

at least we still have 2 very competative companies back at each others necks again... and soon we will get 9800 pro for 150 USD!

ATi's CURRANT process used in their X-800 chips is THE most advanced process in use for ALL GRAPHICS CHIPS. SHADER 2.0/3.0 DO NOT FRIGGIN MATTER NOW! no games support 3.0, ATi's 2.0 is better than nvidias 3.0 for quality........

read the WHOLE review before you say something like that...

Also to could you please not put that (-) between the X and the numbers. It doesn't make sense because that'll mean 10-800 <= looks weird doesn't it. Also you don't write your roman numerlas like X-X-V-I-I-I do you? Just write it how ATi did X800 it simple, easy to remember and looks a hell of a lot better. That is all thanks.

actually tomshardware did oc the x800 and you cannot crank up the clock very much. something like 15 mhz.
the 6800's seem to have much more headroom to overclock

then the ram must be limiting, the ATi Radeon 9800 256mb pro could not o/c more than 5 mhz.. but all the others  could do alot more.. could be the card they got,  Ocing depends on the luck of the draw... some chips can fly.. others can't crawl..

but it IS significantly cooler than the 6800, it uses much less power , all the signs of a good overclocker.

it seems u make claims of reading the review but u miss out damm important info the x800 pro cannot be mad into x800 xt. why u ask ?
becuase the extra 4 pixel pipelines when made from the stock chip after they are tested and it decide that the chip is for a  x800 pro the pipelines are sealed permanetly so u cannot make a x800 pro into a x800 xt

and how do they seal those 4 pipes?

by either software , if so a soft mod will unlock them

or hardware thingy.. if so you can try to unlock it the same way you unlocked hyperthreading on your P4 northwood : connect the dots..

i doubt they could permanantly.. "seal off " the pipes.. in Durons and Celerons the companies are supposed to permananlty seal of the extra cache... but there are ways to unlock it.

of course this is even more luck-of-the draw than overclocking,
ATi has to come up with a certain number of X-800 pros, so you will find a few perfectly good XT chips in the batch..

u don't understand do u these aren't soft sealed not even got a connection to try to activate these are sealed on die . ain't got no way to open them up. as far find a 800xt as 800 pro unlikley there be 1 in a 100,000 at most .so much easier to destroy something on die than to make

the 6800 GT has been reviewed on www.fireringsquad.com

its a lower end version to the 6800 ultra, lower clock etc., needs less power but still takes up 2 slots.

and its also been proven that you only need a 350 watt TRU power brand name psu...   you would want a 450 watt if you use generics to be safe...
