THe story starts aboard the jla watchtower.
There is a general assemble meeting after supermans return and the destruction of doomsday at the hands of wave rider.
Alot of people were hurt and alot of things had to be assesed, how the jla would deal with further threats of that magnitude.
Guy Gardner (former green lantern, later became THE WARRIOR after he stole a yellow lantern ring

anyways. Guy gardner has alot of attitude and has always disliked superman being the head of the JLA , so he decides to challenge the S for leadership. Kal el is in no mood and tells guy to sit down, guy then blasts him thru a wall and turns his back and proclaims himself the new leader and that supes aint so tuff after all.
Kal el gets up and with eyez blazing with rage. says to guy
" You know, there is a reason why iam the leader here"
Guy is in total shock that he is still concious and proceeds to hit him with every thing hes got, superman works right up to him comlpetely unphased, guy begins punching supermans chest, only to break his knuckles that way, superman then crushes his hand and
TAKES THE GREEN LANTERN RING OFF OF HIS FINGER!
NOW PEOPLE, THIS ISNT SUPPOSED TO BE POSSIBLE!!!!
BUT SUPERMAN DOES IT!
HE IS NOW PERFECT BODY, JOINED BY PERFECT MIND.
HIS POWER HAS GROWN EXPONENTIALLY INT HAT MOMENT AND HE THEN KICKS GUY GARDNER OUT OF THE JLA.
the green lantern corps sends some lanterns out to retrieve gardner and superman feeling the surge of power, tells them he will hold onto the ring for a little while.
HE now doesnt need to breathe in space, can travel beyond light speed with out expending his own energy and with the aid of the ring, converts even more sunlight into energy so his reserves increase exponentially.
he has reached a very great point.
he then proceeds to end all wars on earth
remove all nuclear weapons
ends world hunger and poverty
he is then made president of the earth by the un.
THe green lantern corps aproaches him, and gives him his own lantern.
AT THIS POINT, HE BECOMES THE SOVEREIGN, THE MOST POWERFUL ENTITY KNOWN!
HE SEEKS TO MAKE THE WORLD AND THE UNIVERSE INTO HIS UTOPIA
AND HE NOW HAS THE POWER TO MAKE EVERY AND ANYTHING BEND TO HIS STRENGTH AND TO HIS WILL.
HIS WILL BE DONE.
the reason wave rider came back in the first place was to prevent this tyrrant from being born
but he had no idea that it was superman who became the sovereign.
he goes a little further back in time and convinces supes to give the lanterns back the ring before he becomes the sovereign.
imagine if he gets it back a second time??
