I ask this nao.

How many of us nao buying games, or buying more often, just because of the steam-age? (UT3 and TF2 is FRAKKING 10USD, FCOL!)

Would you believe, that Steam has actually made me WANT to buy more games, instead of pirating them?
The amount of headache and hoops you have to jump through now to acquire and play the latest games
is beginning to wear on me.  Not to mention if your HDD gets fuXX0red,  and you LOSE all those ISOs.

Steam means never having to look for an errant game disc ever again.  Having that disc is not as important to me as it once was.
The only drawback is that you must have an internet connection...and a very fast one at that, but then, thats the whole point right?

What I'm wondering is though...say you level up to 55 in COD4 (that was Steam bought), and you reformat your system and reinstall Steam,
would all those stats and rank be saved to your Steam profile (as is the case for Left 4 Dead), or would you have to start over from scratch?

You laid out very well the reasons I've decided to go with Steam.

@ text with red background... apparently not :(
I installed COD4 on desktop and laptop....Laptop does not have the online profile.
Apparently COD stores multiplayer data client side, thats why there exists Level 55 hacks etc.
So what I researched is that you can move your multiplayer profile by copying the folder from pc to pc, i.e. back that shiz up. I don't know bout parallel running yet though, i.e. level up to 45 on desktop, then go mobile, level up to 46, then go back on desktop where upon loggin in u are level 46 and can continue.

Damn, thats what I thought.  So you still have to back it up locally somewhere.  Oh well, I do that anyway.
Most likely I will buy COD:MW2 on Steam, so I'll have to figure out then how to back that s#1t up as well.

Define 'drop box' for me though. ???

...and i am now getting UT3 as well, but with a 'paltry' speed of 240 kB/s...and thats the only thing downloading.

Steups...thats roughly five times as fast.
At just over 8 GB, I lookin at about *2 days* there, and that is if Blink doh play up in dey *censored*  :angry2:

I would like to 'go with the flow', but sadly, I cannot.  No digital in these parts yet.

How much per month does a 10 MB connection from Flow cost anyway?

*correction: approx 10 hrs at constant speed*

$350...not bad at all... even on a worldwide stage...
Same thing in say Toronto is $60CDN + a 100GB monthly cap. :|

lol, yeah, that turret making mofo could be a pain. Level rockets and Dreadnaughts to deal with those pests. Not sure how expensive they are to put down, never played him.

A level 41 space marine just mash me up real stink with the apothecary. Early game I was cutting his arse but apparently combat stimulants (stim pack) makes porridge out of enemy troops mid game.

This baptism of fire getting ridiculous now.

I need to strengthen my mid and late game, FAST. I've lost games where beating the enemy on every category (units killed, points captures, etc....) only to get wtfpwned by some ability. I'll be like "zomg!! wtf was that!" and he/she'll say "The Sacred Standard, get it every game" or "combat stims, they rock your socks off"

Don't even get me started on Ork, tyranid and Eldar alien tech. Seems I only stand a chance against high level space marines and noob aliens. Anything above TS 8 orks and eldars swatting my squads off the planet surface.

America's Army was always free online.  I never bothered with it because of all the so-called
'training' you have to go through before you can actually play the damn game against real people.

I want to shoot people NOW, not after all this got-damn 'training'.

...and plus, I can't stand all the US Army propaganda being thrown my way.
