This release includes GNOME 2.4, KDE 3.1.4, OpenOffice 1.1, and Samba 3.0.

Hardware Requirements

The following information represents the minimum hardware requirements necessary to successfully install Fedora Core 1:

CPU:

NOTE: The following CPU specifications are stated in terms of Intel processors. Other processors (notably, offerings from AMD, Cyrix, and VIA) that are compatible with and equivalent to the following Intel processors may also be used with Fedora Core.

o Minimum: Pentium-class

NOTE: Fedora Core 1 is optimized for Pentium PRO (and later) CPUs, but also supports Pentium-class CPUs. This approach has been taken because Pentium-class optimizations actually result in reduced performance for non-Pentium-class processors.

o Recommended for text-mode: 200 MHz Pentium-class or better
o Recommended for graphical: 400 MHz Pentium II or better

Hard Disk Space (NOTE: Additional space will be required for user data):

o Custom Installation (Minimal): 520MB
o Server: 870MB
o Personal Desktop: 1.9GB
o Workstation: 2.4GB
o Custom Installation (Everything): 5.3GB

Memory:

o Minimum for text-mode: 64MB
o Minimum for graphical: 192MB
o Recommended for graphical: 256MB

Also to concluded this topic, the mc thin is 6cd,now i have lost my nuts!!

You only need the first three.  The others are source code.

i had mandrake9 working on a 166mhz ibm laptop with 32mb of ram and it ran just as fast as win 98. which is remamrkable when you take into concideration the features mandrake 9 has. linux is a very versitille software (once you dont try to install anything)

nah you can install things, just know what you're doing. And hardware, just mount them.

Red Hat is Linux and while Linux is good (great!) it is not Unix, and Unix generally seems to be more complete, especially in networking, than Linux.
So far Linux is easier and I would use it for most home uses but Solaris (the Unix that I know) seems better in the networking department. (In many circles it is considered the most secure OS)

Actually i believe Freebsd is more secure than solaris come on with random isn number, make it nearly impossible to guess the increment, steups solaris no contest.Redhat 10 i heard it very bad from mutliple sources,ok anyone got it?Hmm i see AsianSpices rocking competition with the male computers geek on this side of this forums.Guys watchout, her intelligence might just run over with her fooit in ours face..augh!!

yuh knoe lol
i finally find a forum that i can relate to other dan de bar lol
woiii

but yea i hav  a copy of Fedora
3cds

i not bossin in Solaris though
but so far so de feedback from ppl using Fedora is very very positive
but Linux on the whole is very secure

Windows security system cannot comparee
Windows built their OS to accomodate as much as possible
thus there are many bugs
while compare to
Netware it  is not as versed but what they have are built very strong , flexible , efficient and secure

while Unix out does all Windows and Netware combined
Unix-source code distributed
Unix was notmade for the normal average Joe out there
hence it i not as popular as Windows becuase Windows targeted the average Joe as their market
Unix was built by programmers
Unix interface is mainly command driven
Hence its very dificuly to hack into
if someone can hack into a linux system..dey is boss

but i believe da one day
Bill gates go produce a software for Linux lol
(man into making money)

but
my opinions

talking bout the security among the different open source software(ie freely distributed software) such as systems such as GNU, FreeBSD, and Linux (RedHat, Caldera, Mandrake etc...now Fedora...)
and the security in proprietary UNIX (ones that you pay for)
example:
Solaris is a Sun's propietry version of Unix
like how AIX is IBM's
and HP-UX is HP's

I believe that unless you are in a huge company that has the budget to pay for
use the propietry UNIX the security system is very good
after all it much be
you are paying not only for the name but the quality

for us average people who wether just interested in programming or exploring UNIX
the open source software will work just fine
the security is exceptionaly well
plus its free!

frankly, all the realeases of red hat are bogus. the damn thing cant even play mp3's neither divx movies, both of which mandrake can do. Also the dialer in redhat 10 not even working...i get vex,  pitch that in the bush, and install mandrake 9.2.best linux distro, followed by knoppix 3.2
