Does anyone know what I can do for this?
« on: November 12, 2004, 07:02:16 PM »
I have the logitech Z-640 5.1 surround computer stereo speakers. Good pong for the price. Now recenty I have heard a slight distrotion coming fromt he woofer expecially when it came to bassy games & tunes. Upon opening the grille of the woofer I've found the woofer cone to be warped beyond salvation. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what I can do. To understand what I am talking about observee the twoo attached pictures

these speakers are never as strong as you think they'd be. Especially the woofer.

It is also painful to service / rma.

right now I am using a big 12" sub, standard car stuff, in a carpeted speaker box along side my logitech satellites.

power to the people.

*car amp and inverter required, lol

off topic i know, but baego, you do realize that if that amp were to ever give you feedback, it would toast you soundcard right???????? risky business when attaching equipment that is not designed for a certain use.

Hey Dead eyes, when u say repair that stuff, u mean they can actually get the cone back to its original form or replace it if push come to shove?

I think you might be better off replacing the speaker altogether, its only an 8", look for a comparable make, ohmage and power rating and replace it. Repairing though will work (yes they can replace the cone) will not work as well as it orignally did. Look at a 8" Pioneer or JBL.
On a side note, if u do repair consider porting the box, the distortion may have been cause because of the weakness of the materials and the compression of the air in the enclosure, porting should help that problem somewhat.

yeah they can repair it but wintry has a good pint there, you should look into buying a ported box which can support the airflow required and will sound good too

Ok kool. Yea, my uncle has the Z-680 and I notice in addition to the porthole he has a large heatsync. I know for the amplification and power wattage too. Well, if they can repair the cone that's good. I may also think to ask them if they can install a port hole on this box. Does anyone know like the price difference to repair the cone or buy a new sub?

The new sub should not cost more than maybe $500 depending on how good a brand and spec u buy, honestly u may get it for $200 I have not looked up prices on speakers in a while far less ones at 8" sizes

Ok then, I know that repairing the sub may not sound as good as when I first got it, but I think if I port the box it might sound just as good. I will toy around with the ideas. DE, where's that place again that repairs the cone of the subwoofers?

Well If the sub costing more than $200 to replace, u might as well buy a new Z-640 at that rate (It's currently going for under $400 currently :) )

the place is located just before Marios on the corner of tragarete road and cipriani boulevard. walk from the corner toward Republic on the side with Marios and you'll see it, it's an old building and some of my friends go there for repairs on hi performance speakers so i know they're god
