Help choosing a video card
« on: October 07, 2003, 02:53:11 PM »
I currently have a geforce4mx440 64sdram and i want something better.
i have the choice of a slightly used geforce4 ti4200 128  for $750-$800 or buying from the net
I was looking at a Prolink PixelView GeForce FX5600 256MB DDR Ultimate 8X AGP Video Card with CRT+DVI+VIVO+TVOut - Retail Box for around $950 -(shipping to trinidad not included)

I want to spend a max of around $1100.. Any advice?

I would go with a Radeon 9600 series card - shud just about fit into your budget. Course I didn't ask what you want to do with it but since you didn't say I assume you want the best gaming ready card for the money. P.S. Anything that says GeForce FX - RUN FROM IT!!!! You almost certainly will find a more competitive card from ATI for less money.

Yah 9600 pro can overclock to radeon 9700 pro speed .
geforce FX sux , the colours look like muddy water and the speed = 0 .
Radeons come with truform which filters blocky edges from games  and the texture quality is second to none

Radeon HD 4770

I know that Ati has better cards but would they be able to run games like doom 3 as good as a nvidia based card  even though Carmack said that doom 3 is being built optimised for the nvidia gpu ?I rather go for better compatibility from a card.
