Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition
« on: August 01, 2004, 08:55:30 PM »
Anyone familiar with networking Unreal Tournament GOTY (Game of the Year) edition?  The server is not being recognised over the network.  Please advise.

yea.but i never had a problem with it being recognized over a network. probably cus i use it on a domain network.
ummm but you should try havin all the networked computers on a class D network (is class D??, de one where de subnet mask is 255.255.255.0)

By 'server' I meant the Unreal Server Session.  The PC itself serves other games (e.g. YVD, MechWarrior, TD6 etc..).  But this is the only game I'm having probs with.  All the systems are running XP home.

Whether or not it is a class C (that is what you are using) network should not have anything to do with whether or not it is recognized unless you are using a different network (i.e. a class B with a class C) in that case it is likely that you wouldn't even see the network or the network wouldn't see you. Make sure you have the proper subnet mask on all machines and routers. Remember to use proper subnetting techniques. I haven't used UT goty much, just a little but I am halfway through CCNA and trained Solaris 8 admin. It sounds like it could easily be a subnetting problem.

peace,
Bong
P.S. yes I just might be back

Oh, I apologize...I didn't see the part about it being able to serve other games, it could still be a subnet problem...and looks like one, but this broadens the range. Check your settings on the game server, check for subnet settings on the server. Other than that I don't know the server well enough, windows is obviously working fine, I would check your settings on the client  too. The client needs to be on the same subnet if they aren't seperated by a router.

aye if i was he, format all de hard drives, reinstall windows on all computers, put on a server edition on one of the machines, dcpromo the server and have yourself a nice domain and join all the clients onto the domain. yuh shouldnt have any problems with that. and you can set any of the clients as the game server
