2600xp and R9800pro good combination??

i am planning to upgrade to a 2600xp barton and R9800pro with A78nx-x mobo, is the processor good enough for the video card.
Or what combo do you recommend beside A64 rig?

Have no fear - that should work beautifully.  Just make sure you have enough ram for the kickmc games you'll be running with yur upgraded rig.

i looked at the becnhmarks for the amd xps and p4s and it showed that the 2800, 3000 and 3200 perform comparably to the 2.8Ghz p4, and the 2600xp wasnt far behind

depends on which 2600 it is... the 2600 barton is prefferable to the 2600 thouroughbred... the barton runs cooler and 5-10 % faster than an equally clocked Tbred

if you can afford the 9800 i strongly suggeest you buy at least a 2800... just a few more fps will make a difference playing newer games.
even if you want to save on the CPU, get brand-name buffered RAM

but before all that get a decent monitor, a flat screen CRT with a good name (viewsonic,sony to name 2)
