No vat or duty on Computer stuff :D  only shipping and Handling .

Not exactly correct. Duties and VAT have not been officially removed completely from all computer items.
Ram, processors, fax modems get 2.5% plus VAT.
Networking stuff, UPS attracts 5% + 15%.
Speakers 20% + 15%
CPU fans 2.5% + 15%

I think a ruling from the World Customs Organisation is required.

However, it can depend on who ships it, plus the mood of the customs officer at the port of entry.

The owner of PRW had an issue with this some time back.

Cases:
I ordered 256 mb of ram from crucial. Shipped via FEDEX to TT. Charged 2.5% + VAT.

Ordered computer from Miami, also upgrades from various places - vid card, cd-rw, sound card, CPU fan/heatsink, ram coolers. All sent to P.O. Box Int'l/E-Zone, was not charged any duties/VAT. Even on CPU fan/heatsink.

Ordered second vid card, sent to my other skybox  address, upxpress, was charged 20% + VAT.

Despite PO Box Int'l charging US$30 a year, I rather do business with them. I just don't trust some of the others to get the right classifications. Plus if you get books, mail by USPS they charge you their mail rate, which is lower.

By the way, upxpress will e-mail you a list of items with their relevant duties/VAT.

It is especially important to remember that law and life are two different things.

In the real world, the customs officer can charge however he feels and if you chose to challenge his decision you will be without your item for months if not years while it is settled in court.

If you pay for the item and query the rate after the fact, it could easily be two years before the treasury reimburses you.

As such,  the best thing to do is prepare yourself for the worst rate they could possibly charge. Typically 35% (20% duty + 15% vat)

I have seen this first hand, many many times at the GAS Custom bond. (General Aviation Services) Printers, Cameras, Scanners, the works.

The SAFEST bet is an entire PC, boxed...I have never seen that classed wrong.

the company is international, that doesn't mean they are not local.

It means that they have branches all over the world, INCLUDING, Trinidad.

I actually went to get one of their registration forms on Friday. Thinking about trying them out, but I'll still do some investigating before I make my final decision.
