Help : PSTwo not playing DVD

Actually for all those concerned bout the warranty (camrE), i emailed Sony the very same day and explained my problem to them and this is what they told me:-

We apologize for any inconvenience, but Sony Computer Entertainment America
(SCEA) does not have
authorized distribution of PlayStation® products in your region.   We regret
to inform you that
questions regarding sales, repairs, release dates, wholesale contacts,
compatibility of systems, and
other PlayStation-related information cannot be answered at this time.  We
understand that the
demand is growing for a PlayStation presence in your region, but we do not yet
have any established
distribution channels for our products.

In the meantime, please be aware that due to different television and voltage
standards, and a
variety of licensing issues, Sony Computer Entertainment has implemented a
territorial-based
distribution system for its hardware and software.  This limits the use of any
particular software
to play on the console designated for that distribution territory (e.g. North
American games will
not play in the systems designed for other regions, such as, Japan, Europe,
etc.).  We do not have
any information on adapters or converters made to override territorial
restrictions.  The various
PlayStation® consoles and format software titles are only designed to run in
their respective
regions and countries.

I dunno bout you, but from that reply i gathered that they were saying their products not "made" to be played in Trinidad and Tobago hence the warranty is void or doesn't apply to us.

I guess if i called, they would have given the same reply.

i think the older model was better , better air flow...and i think it had a fan too.....this slim thing not cutting it really...is not like if is a handheld...is to run in yuh mc house (older ps2 version i mean eh)


NOTE: ever wonder why Sony Playstation is one of the few cheaper stuff sony has ever sold (besides trying to keep cheap as competitors).....look at d price of a PSP...ridiculous....

Since de days when I had my Genesis and I used to read the manuals from cover to cover I know console warranties doh mean nutten in Trinidad. If yuh console spoil here, you either have a warranty with the store (good luck with that) or you fix it yourself.


As for Nanan's...I never had a bad experience with the place or the guy. As far as I've seen he does the repairs and modifications in plain view of the customer, and my modded Playstation worked without fail for years...probably still working all now.

Yeh Nanan called me the very same day and told me the problem and verified if to fix it or not. He told me come in 20 minutes, i did and it was ready.

Anybody have an idea of how much it gonna cost to ship this to Sony and how long it gonna take to reach and come back, or IF they woulda even bother with the claim ?

Most electronics in Trinidad carry no warranty directly from a company. Is a long process, stores does feel the bite. Yuh ever went into Courts Service Centre and see how people does be cussin over stereos and microwave ? What does Courts say if yuh make enough noise and lucky ? That they go fix it.

camrE, if yuh read the lil fine writing on warranty booklets it does clearly state the regions the warranty valid for. If yuh outside the region, yuh screwed.

I not implying nutten...it's just that I've neevr had a single bad experience in the place, and neither have any of my friends. We've been going there for years, we've modded 4 consoles in total, and bought at least 100 games combined, if not many more.

If there's some kinda scandal that I should know about, I want to know.

I know there's a lot of bacchanal and ole talk between competing pirates...but if it's something other than that, I want to hear it.

The talk about Nanan's being all negative is preposturous.  Electronic stuff can go wrong at anytime.  Life is funny.  You have no warranty so the man puts a price on your salvation and that's about it.  Pay the man the money and get your console working or go mumble in a corner.

Everybody in trinidad loves to think that they know better than everybody else.  That's how this ole talk start up from long time and just escalated into stupid rumours.  

The only negative experience I had with Nanan's would be switching the from the gameshark mod to the magic/messiah 3.1.  After taking the chip, my ps2 only played DVD format discs.

Even then when I thought the situation to be utter bs the man cut me a nice deal on a new ps2 already modded with the then new chip trading in my old ps2.

All I can say is that I'd rather spend money behind Nanan to get my stuff fixed than to go by some other SHADY characters to have my stuff done.  Hell, if Nanan says he doesn't have my ps2 afterward, the police station is right across the road.

As for Nanan's being an untrustworthy retailer/repairman because he sells pirate stock...I woulda say something about context, or comment on the simple-mindedness of equating "criminal" with "dishonest person" but...is camrE.

Sorry, the dude CREATES and sells the pirated stock. Which is illegal. Which is a crime. Which makes him a criminal! There isn't any splitting hairs on the matter about this garbage dishonesty not equating to criminal.

I never said anything about his actions not being criminal.

We're talking about his business practices a they relate to the customer...not to manufacturers. Does the business lie to customers, rob them, sell them faulty stock etc.


I just find it real amusing that in your mind, people who engage in piracy are automatically untrustworthy. Even a right-wing Christian fundamentalist wouldn't say something so infantile.


And then there's even more to that business that you don't know about, but ay...keep the jaw flappin without the full story.

actually that is an automated reply they send to anyone not in the sale zone for the console. Its called a CMA letter (Cover My @ss)

I does always go to Nanan's but i kinda agree that they dishonest. My PS2 was working real good just had a little dust. Carry it to clean for fifty dollars and took almost ah week to get it back. When ah went they tell me me DVD's not showing and it will cost $1,000.00 to get a new lense. I get real mad. Start to quarrel and tell them it was good all the time. You know they fix it? However it was never the same. Right now my DVD's does still stick every now and then. They cause this. People right to think they dishonest. I does only still go cause they nearby and does get new games fast.
