Tournament Team 2005
« on: January 06, 2005, 04:44:57 AM »
Guys,

We are in need of a "few good men"

There are plans in the works for a local ladder for fighting games that will feature prizes and a rating system to encourage frequent competitve action for console gamers all over the island.

We have neglected the console aspect for far too many years with only token representation in sweats and gls and the odd tourney. This will be our best effort to put them on equal footing with their PC  brethren in terms of regularity and significance.

To start the ladder, a tournament will be held in easter.

The need now is for volunteers.

Any interested individuals willing to take up an administrative role in GATT for the next 3-4 months? Setting up the tournament and ladder system. Most of all, ensuring its smooth operation.

We have a ton of tourney experience and feedback from previous events to aid us in this quest.

Some of you have promised / pledged support previously (Exar/Neo/etc..)

This is your chance. The team will consist of 5-6 people max and be responsible for determining the games, the lay out, date, time, formats, prizes, etc...

Heavy console/emu/administrative experience will be an asset.

Email baego@gatt.co.tt or holler on msn (baego@gatt.co.tt) if you're interested.

No assistance will be refused. So if you got ideas/prizes to donate/etc.. but can't commit the time and energy to be a part of the team, feel free to contribute via the regular means. IE.. forum/email/phone/gl/etc..

Let's make 2005 the best year for gaming in the caribbean ever!

Another important point to note, similar to previous gatt events, the administratation will be able to participate but will NOT be eligible for prizes.

So far we have:

Well it has begun.

We will be partnering with our caribbean brethren for this years events.

Giga2005 Console Tournament

Hosted by The Guadeloupe Gaming Association: GigaGames

3 contestants from Trinidad will be hosted at a Hotel in Guadeloupe for 2 days to participate in the events.

Winning Eleven 8
1st Prize: $2000.00 and 1 Sony PSP
2nd Prize: $1500 and 1 Nintendo DS
3rd Prize: Microsoft Xbox

Need for Speed Underground 2
1st Prize: $2000.00 and 1 Sony PSP
2nd Prize: $1500 and 1 Nintendo DS
3rd Prize: Microsoft Xbox

There is a possibility Street Fighter will be added as well but we have not confirmed as yet.

The Trinidad events have not been fomrally decided but will most likely include the following.
Tekken 4
Soul Calibur 2
Guilty Gear X
Street Fighter

Again, feel free to make suggestions.

Giga2004 ran Soul Calibur 2 and Giga2003 ran Tekken 4 so the winners from those events will be hosted in Trinidad.

Expect some fierce competition.

Stay tuned to this thread as we firm things up.

lol @ JR. Ghost beating you.

He couldn't beat me in Tekken 4, far less for you.

10 - 1 does not count as a "win"

Unless he talking, match for match, in which case, he won 1.

Statistics are a bitch aren't they?

Anyway, I'd advise if you were to hold a tournament for fighting games that you include Capcom vs SNK 2 SF:3rd Strike and Guilty Gear XX or GG#: Reload.

Don't take my word for it though, check out the big guns over at shoryuken.com and see what games they have on their dvd.  Or better yet, ask the moderators there.  They're helpful sons of b!tches.

thanks for the heads up.

Do you know anyone locally that is really into the scene, maybe familiar with shoryuken.com that may be willing to join the team and help make this a success?

lend us their expertise.

I could talk to some of the folks who ran EVO 2k4 and find out what you need.

If it's anyting to do with game settings and allowed options as well as banned character lists or anything, I could advise you well.

The thing is to get all the games you run to go on as close as possible to arcade settings.

Anything other info you may need on anything specific I'd be willing to talk to the people for you if necessary.

At the moment, this is the only contribution I can make toward the effort so please bear with the situation.

Actually the rules and settings they use are on the Evolution website. Last year for gamecon I drafted the rules using the evo rules taken from that very page. Only difference is that  they used a double elimination system.

see below
http://www.evo2k.com/guide/

*EDIT* I spoke to a few of the tourney folks over @ srk . They also pointed me to this link.

http://www.shoryuken.com/features/e000225.shtml

What they basically said is once you decide the rules and bracket order it should be easy to run the tourney.

I guess it's time to begin sharpening the old reflexes once again.

Hopefully my boy BM hasn't been practicing all this time.

It is.

Check www.carigamers.com for details of what is in the works and what is confirmed.

A new member has joined the team as of today.

Chrono X (you may know him already)

He brings to the table a wealth of fighting game experience as well as emu experience.

As soon as the remaining 2 - 3 member spots are filled, we will commence meetings to nail all the details.
