Dual GPUs have returned!

Its certainly possible as i said before , that companies will release dual GPU cards for the ultra high end market ....... seeing that most motherboards do not support SLI , and that you HAVE to buy to cards at the same time in order to get the same model etc. etc. ... Dual GPUs makes perfect sense until ATI busts out multi rendering .
With multi rendering you can join ANY to graphics cards,  an X800 and an X300, and maybe ( with some custom programming ) a 6800 and an X800 !

According to the article though, this isn't particularly targeted at the "ultra high end" of the market...if Gigabyte holds true, then this dual-6600 GPU card + SLI mobo will be cheaper than 1 6800 Ultra by itself! That's a hell of a compelling reason to pick it up...better yet, unlike regular SLI with 2 single-6600 GPU cards, this dual-6600 GPU card supposedly outperforms a 6800GT! Well, at least according to Gigabyte's benchmarks on 3DMark2003...however, I always find it a little suspect when companies only release a single benchmark to back up their claims...worse yet on an older benchmarking suite like 3DMark2003...very suspect imo. Time will tell.

very interesting

I wonder why it is bundled with an SLI motherboard?

Hmm they might be bundled with the SLI board cause they support SLI..thus... two dual CPU cards will far surpass all... even if a one, dual GPU card say an Nv1dia card is slower but u can couple 2... dual cores... @TI will have a problem.... but then again thats how it is now... :P ah well

dual gpu cards in sli mode???

Lawd!!!

that will be too much performance for any one man to handle!

yuh could render life in real time with that. lol

Hmm be that as it may... what going to feed these cards??? and yuh have any idea how high the light bill go be? Dread right now an  A64 4000+ can't feed the single core SLI setup with sufficient data to really maximize its power, imagine what will happen with a dual core GPU? far less 2???? you'll need like a Quad 0pteron setup to get the highest performance from them... 0_o

thats alot of munnie hoss the ASUS mobo that just came out is 270US!! and if you go cheap cards say dual 6600GT (which is that best budget card anyone cud buy rite now) that wud add on another 500US!! so that 770 already i say go for a single card slot mobo if you dont have to cash or wait till the SLI drops out and seriously WHO NEEDS ALL THAT GAMING POWER

actually the 6600gt PCI-X costs as little as 180 USD.... , 360 = less than a 6800gt and same performance , but you have to buy an expensive board to get that performance....... and you need tons of RAM in order to keep a 128mb card when games will be using 256-512mb  of video data alone...
nvidia SLI now = waste of money, ATI sli might be different.. ANY  2 cards can be joined supposedly, imagine buying a 140$ X700 when you are broke, saving up an getting a 250$ x800 8 months later , fusing to give 18 pixel pipes, 12 vertex pipes running your games faster than an X850XT .....
with nvidia you HAVE to buy 2 cards at once, nvidia SLI needs both cards to have identical RAM, BIOS image etc. , if you buy chaintech 6800, your not likely to get another identical one 6 months later .

The way i understand SLI is that the CPU sends almost identical data to both cards, so the CPU load isn't that greater over a single card , your performance boost comes from 2x the processing power , each card has the same textures and vetrex data as the other, so 2 256mb cards do not make 1 512mb card....

Please stop thinking multi cpus = multi x single cpu power.

A quad opteron will power a sli setup no better...especially given the actual mhz is so much lower...

true that, W!indows is not designed to take advantage of multiple processors , so you barely get noticably performance over a single processor....
But a properly compiled version of Unix will notice a big difference  .
As it is SLI is seriously overrated....  no one needs more than a 6800GT to enjoy all of 2004 and 2005 and most of 2006 gaming, even a 6600gt/9800  is more than sufficient ( if you don't mind no AA) to run half life 2 and doom III at max res .
And by the time the games require the power of SLI in order to run on a 6800 well, the 6800 will lack certain features newer cards have.....

550 dollars! and its still not any faster tham a 6800gt.... another waste of money :(  .

true true 6600GT is the card rite now its cheap and gives you the best performance for that price SLI isnt needed rite now its doh make any sense if you need that much power and you got the cash get a eVGA 6800 Ultra or even a 6800GT will have you happy

oh yeah the 6600GT is 234 for the AGP versionthe PCI-e is cheaper tho about 180 as you that fella said earlier

I never said or meant to imply that multi processors = single CPU x no. of CPU's synth. The reason I mentioned this was because just short of seriously overclocking ur rig (like a 6GHz P4), ur not gonna get more performance out of current tech other than adding in more cpu's + multithreaded apps +  RAM + support for 64-bit instructions etc *sighs* btw u really are kinda harsh... also the 0pterons are not that far behind in terms of clock... 2.4GHz ain't that slow.... One more thing, I based the statement on a review I read whereby they showed that the current high end graphics cards are seriously CPU limited... thats all... so currently to get a lil more outta ur tech, you get more of the best thats all... and also drivers to support the multiple cpus with the SLI setup would be needed...

cheap opeterons are seriously lacking in clock , the ones at the same price as the A64s clock at 1.4~1.6 , you might as well get a dual a64 board....
