ASUS the worst boards on the planet
« on: December 18, 2004, 08:47:25 PM »
Ok fellas, I know I'm no guru when it comes to hardawre..., but I've been setting up and building highend machines for years and I do know a thing or two about reliability and consistency... Though many a GATT member will say...," Virus u mad o wah"

Ive been checking the web for years and judging for my presonal results ASUS Motherboards have been posted about the most on almost every fourm I've been privy to....,

Taking that into consideration and scince I'm building yet another machine for a south client using MSI's new Flagship Motherboard featuring (2) 6800 vid cards in SLI mode I can safely say imo MSI has made a good name for themselves and will continue to make great relaible motherboards for a long time to come

check out this link see for uself

1st. gimme the address of that south client so i can " Liberate" his machine .

2nd. Asus makes great motherboards and cards, they ARE overpriced and overhyped, but STILL good .  MSI is a good brand, but its not peferct itself , they DO make boards that crash and fail......

MY A7N8x-E is 1000% stable , and i love the features . The only thing i hate about asus is the UGLY YELLOW PCB!

Out of the top tier mobo manufacters MSI and Asus are my least favs. Id pick Asus over MSI. That said Asus intel 865 and 875 chipset boards are among the best. My main vice with MSI is there crappy bios' and myriad of hardware issues, everything from features that don't work or features that don't work as they should.

Asus have been guilty of this as well but not nearly as much as MSI; At least their bios updates tend to make things better and not worse as is usually the case with MSI.

I strongly recommend people don't depend on Tech Site reviews more than 50% or at the very least consult as much reviews from different sites as possible. The other 50% should be user reviews...mobo support forums in particular.

Hoss I here alyuh..,  but we still have to face the facts...
Athough Asus may make good stuff they are still the most posted about in terms of problems and not to mention their RMA situations.., it the pits...

I have a friend who went through atleast 2 ASUS mobo's in a month cuz one was delivered defective and the other just did not work (He uses MSI branded mobo's only now)... I'm not talking from the tech sites or fourms only but from personal experience... And i have used mobo's from many other manufacturers (Biostar included) and I'm telling you that ASUS has been failing thus far... especially with making promises of supplying STABLE, reliable units, that could stand the testing and abuse of the PC public

I suggest you guys take a look around again you'll notice that ASUS has to buck up an give us users a real reason for their CONSISTANT failures

consistant failure? such as being the only mobo to break the 10 k 3dmark 2005 benchmark? with the dual 6800 ultras?

come on, no one is perfect, but when a company can deliver like that mobo, and also there gaming edition video cards, which crank serious juice out of any card they choose, yu have to give them there props where its due.

there is such a thing as bad luck....   its just co incidence for you to get multiple failed boards in a row,  I have a friend who bougt 2 intel boards , both failed, i know people who got 2-3 different RMA'd 9700s and all failed , people who bought several 5600s , all failed/have issues .
Asus is a great company , they are not AS good as some would have you believe, but they are in NO WAY the worst.

I have to side with synth here
Asus and MSI are my least favs.

Have had no end of trouble with their products over the years of selling and building gaming systems. At first I was sweet on MSI and promoted this to customers. That came back to haunt me.

Asus, I was never fond off, but customers always requested it. They gained recognition as the defacto "name brand" motherboard it seemed. Personally, I would prefer Abit, but not for reliability, but rather for pioneering. They would bring features to market before the other players in the motherboard world. Things like the slocket and jumperless configuration.

Also, it is the honest truth that the most reliable of all our machines have been those built on biostar, gigabyte and ecs motherboards, which are the cheapest of the cheap.

Not to say that these are perfect, but history just showed them to have less issues and rma (customer returns), even though they were sold in greater quantity.

I have had both MSI and Asus boards over the years, even a Tyan, they all had their pros and cons... though to be honest Asus gave me the most issues on account that i've had more of their boards than the others... needless to say my MSI board also failed partially (AGP port failure) and my first A7V8X gave tonnes of probs to me but has not yet had a single problem with the guy who bought it from me. So I have to agree with Trini here on thebad luck part and I also have to agree with Baego that I think Asus has become somewhat of a defacto. I have also seen a gigabyte board run unberably hot with a puny 2100+ AXP so I can't really vouch for some other maufacturers. Biostar though I have to say has really impressed me, great lil boards are steal prices and lil to no complaints... even so easiest to replace.

Just outta curiousity since ur buying a SLI mobo and ur worried about which brand to use (not that there is currently much of a  choice, and is that the reason for this thread?) for that dual 6800 SLI setup? I know that those things are not to pawn a phrase as rare as hens teeth where did u manage to get it? i'd like a link to it.

I have blown a A7V333 In the past. I have a MSI Nforce 2 board now and I have to say the MSI Generally in my book is a better board in terms of reliablility

Funny you should mention that, the MSI board that AGP went thru was an MSI K7V333.... I think that perhaps the chipset has alot to do with it as well, since all my problems with mobos have been VIA chipsets.... A7V8X, K7V333, A7V880... hmmm.... interesting... my A7N8X-X works like a charm...

Most of these posts are useless for the simple reason there is just too many variables which exist which may have caused the user's particular negative experience with any mobo.

The best one can do is ignore "unique" experiences and look for trends...based on as much user experience as possible.
And no not trini experiences either..bah.

Now let me sum up the FACTS:

No board is perfect.

No user is perfect.

ANYONE can make a sli mobo which scores ultra high 3dmark score.

Lastly, BIOSTAR OWNZ!

biostar is a budget board, thats not a question here trini, however that has detracted none from the fact that they are excellent boards in their segment. They work, work well and work without too many hiccups if any at all.
