VIRTUAL HYPERTHREADING!

I was skeptical myself when  i first saw it : a performance tweak for windows that works by installing the same driver the P4s with HT use . I now get
10 000 3dmarks without ANY tweaking or overclocked, before i struggled to get 10 000 after overclocking my CPU, RAM, and video card .  











Right click 'my computer'
Then click 'properties'
Then click the 'hardware' tab
Click 'device manager'

Now at this point you should get a list of all the hardware connected to your rig.

Click on 'Computer'
Then right click on 'ACPI Uniprocessor PC' and select 'properties'
Now click on the 'Driver' tab
Then click on 'update driver'
Select 'install from a list of specific location' and click 'next'.
Now select 'Dont search. I will choose the driver to install' and click 'next' (SP2 users may have an extra dialog box at this point, just click 'not at this time' and proceed to the next step.)

At this stage you will be presented with a list of drivers, pick 'ACPI multiprocessor PC' and click 'next'

Now the driver should install and you'll be prompted to reboot. Do so.

Upon reboot the driver will finish installing and will prompt for a sceond reboot, do that too.

Before I start commenting, could you check something for me?

#1 Search for "Halmps.dll" and tell me if it exists in your windows directory.

#2 Your using WinXP right?

how very happy for AMD , who ownz intel without this tweak

  I'm was always sure HT could be emulated , now i know how to do it  . I'm also sure real HT is better than this tweak , but i will have to do extensive benchmarks to be certain l

oh i didn't c your post, yes i have several 'Halpms.dll' s in my windows folder, and yes i am using XP, don't say the post is spam , just try it .

trini just to get an idea of how valuable this is to me, what were the benchmarks when you ran raw? before the overclock?

The only area where my scores improved was in 3dmark, it went from 9500 to 10000 , and considering that my video card is limiting me VERY much , if you had a 9800 pro, you would probably get 2-3 x the performance increase .

let me ask you something right. if a AMD64 cpu can beat a p4 why would you need a HT fix? you seem to be an AMD fanboy so then why even bother using a HT fix? most fanboys rather die than accept that the opposition has better technology or are you saying that HT is the bomb. too bad you dont have a p4 to see how HT really makes life better.

I would not be surprised at this tweak being true, since if you bridge the right pins on an AMD Duron, you can turn it into an Athlon MP.

They (AMDs) are all built the same, or rather used to, before the 64 bit CPUs. This is cheaper because you have to train less people for less things and less equipment. They just disable the level 2 cache and multiprocessing capability. So I could see Intel doing something like that with their Processors.

Y'all are a bunch of fanboys with your intel boxes.

AMD and Sun SPARC are my cpu's of choice...oh yeah I heard the eden is cool for embedded stuff, on a nano ITX board, no bigger than a one dollar bill.

well Vinion to be quite honest am an amd fanGUY, and i can't afford a 64 platform system yet so i got a p4 2.4 w/o ht so it is going to be of help to some people

Umm Bong where are you shopping? Athl0n XP's more expensive than Semprons... dude let me know in a seriousness I would like to shop there too!!!! Last I checked... and that was yesterday... the XP's are WAYS more expensive... heck a 3200+ is now 200US.... FREAKING $200... thats the cost of my MCSE 2003 books althogether!!!!

actually on some sites the 3200 goes for 120 US . The athlon 3200 was 200 US in the pre/early A64 days .
   Best thing to do is get an athlon xp MOBILE , it WILL overclock to 3200 on crappy cooling , and goes for 70 US in some places.
 
My brothers Duron 1.8ghz only cost 40 US , and is modable to an athlon , and/or can overclock to 2.2 ghz . It has the same performance/clock ratio of a P4 .  

  the sempron is just the Thourobred core used in the older athlonXPs , its small and so cheap

  An A64 system ain't that expensive anymore, you can get an A64 3000 for 140 USD, and 2800s for less . About the same performance as an AthlonXP 3200 in gaming, but is faster in rendering/CAD etc. , they are  supossed to overclock well too .

Nah you just like Amd alot. True fanboys would never do it. they'll probably buy a 2400+ and then rant how much its better than a 2.4 p4 ( even though it isnt, the 2600 is though ).

nah dread, i am, it's just money right now. i got the system for 3k imagine that 3 frikkin thousand, it'll run most if not all games for now, just hadda buy  a BEAST videocard and some ram

Hey trinireturn..... ur talking about OEM Athl0n Xp's cause yuh can't get retail on a 2600+ Barton for less than 100US these days.. at least not from sites like newegg and zipzoomfly (well known sites).
And beyond that I recently posted a new thread which is basically the end of the XP's... so I doh know what you talking about, the more rare those things become the more the price wil increase. As I said, the 3200+ XP is selling for 200US RETAIL on newegg.... thats just too much. Best save a lil more and go A64.
