a 120gb hd is coming my way soon -- momz mash up the old one and she gonna gimme back for my bday :) *does a special jutsu to hide this thread from ramp* ;)

im gonna make that hd into a linux arcade. i am going to find every linux distro and put it on that hd and even some antique ones. this thread is not to boast. i wanna know a few things --

what linux distro(s) you are using now
what linux distro(s) you'd like to be using
pros and cons of certain linux distros

at the end of this all i may have a library of all the nux distros :) and anyone is free to come get copies of whatever linux they like for tooloom fudge or prasad in return :)

Suse is bloated with high memory usage, if u're a *nix hacker i suggest not to go with suse, cuz once u fsck with one stuff everything else fsck. Redhat is limited atm, gonna have to get my hands on slackware alot of ppl referred me to that cuz, to keep fsck free clean.

I've tinkered with a few but only really spent quality time with fedora. Used it as my email, day to day box for about a month.

Evolution kicked brass.

That said, I still wasn't very comfortable using it because I couldn't run my games. Too much maths. Back to XP imc.

Another distro that is well known for its user-friendly interface is Xandros Linux. It's one of those that's trying to sell itself, so even though 3.0 just came out only 2.0 is the latest version available for download by bittorrent. but it's supposed to be good though.

Incidentally, I was wondering which Live CD distro of Linux you'd recommend. I have Knoppix, but I've heard Mepis is supposed to be good too. thoughts?

I am playing with Mephis and have played with Suse 9.1, Red Hat (multiple versions), Mandrake and a custom distro from Abit. By far, the easiest to setup and use for a desktop is Suse. In terms of speed, they're all just as slow! As a sever without X, Red Hat rocks and has some of the greatest support from the company and forums out there. On a side note, if people want a speedy/stable OS with a GUI for X86, you can't beat Windows 2000.
