Game of the Year 2004
« on: November 17, 2004, 10:59:12 AM »
Well so far alot of the aforementioned titles are doing well, Doom III was the best selling PC title in the US of all time (so far), Halo 2 stands to be the most sucessful Xbox titles ever, Half-Life 2 is the most anticipated game of the year i'd say. GTA SA is the best PS2 game for the year (some claim). and SWKotOR is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2003 game of the year... so it begs the question who do you think it should go to?

Ur vote can be personal preference, sales statistics or otherwise or ust blind clicking, give a reason for your choice or not, up to you. Personally I think HL2 or Halo 2. GTA is up there but I have not played or seen much of the gameplay thus far to factor it in yet.

i think half life 2 will get game of the yr.

half life 1 won over 50 game of the year awards. hl2 is another success story. lemme drop the first paragraph in ign review for allyuh.

Quote
November 15, 2004 - I wanted to make this review short and sweet, but it's hard to stop writing, even when excluding facts that could potentially contaminate an exceptionally well thought-out gaming experience. There's just so much to say. Half-Life 2 is, simply put, the best single-player shooter ever released for the PC. It does so many things right in so many ways that it might be possible to write a thesis on the topic of Half-Life 2 compared to other single player shooters. What Valve has created is simply a masterpiece -- a work of art in the genre. Not only does it engage the mind with mysterious happenings, vagaries, and mostly intelligent dialogue, but also captures the senses with a superb visual style made possible by brilliant technology. And once the initial shock of it all wears off and it becomes possible to peel back the polished layers of sight and sound, there is an excellent shooter here. Half-Life 2 doesn't do anything particularly new; it doesn't really innovate in many ways. But what it does is set a new height for all other designers of first-person shooters to reach. It still isn't exactly perfect, but it's about as close as I've seen in my tenure here.

im leaning towards HL2. its awesome. its like God spoke to you from a Flaming Computer Tower that wasnt burning, open the dvd tray and said "this is THE GAME my son, etch these characters, H-L-2, onto that dvd case so that the world would see the my handywork."

not saying that NFSu2 isnt bad or KOTOR2 isnt going to be great as well.

this one is certainly difficult to call. there are so many great games, who knows. HL2, HALO2, MEtroid prime 2, MGS3SE, GTASA, POP2. wow. I would say Halo2 will take it, just on sheer hype.

Halo 2 is over hyped, the campaign is 10 hours long,  considering how SLOW The gameplay is , thats 5 hours @ normal FPS speeds  ! The multiplayer redeems it a bit , but its till not all that .

Doom III doesn't deserve to be the GOTY ,  its just groundbreaking technology  behind the same ole ting .

POP just plain rules,  it will win the GOTY award for its genre for sure .

what about FARCRY?  its alot better than Doom.........

i'm getting half life 2 tomorrow , so i will not pass a verdict greater than.......... GOTY FOR SURE!!!!!!!   till then.
