That's right, boys and girls.
At long last, Mortal Kombat: Deception, has been released for the Playstation 2. Now, whenever I bring up this game, I get some mixed emotions...a few people (myself included), and stoked at the premise of this game....new characters, death traps, and cool mini-games to boot, MKD certainly has a lot to offer the die-hard MK fan. Several people, however, give me opinions I'm sure nearly every one of you have heard, and may even agree with:
"What? That series ent DEAD?"
....to which I say, 'No, and they're going to carry this series as far as it goes.', which is what Ed Boon said himself in one of the trailers. Now, I'm browsing through the site (which you can see at
http://www.mortalkombatdeception.com ), and it seems that co-inciding with the release of the game, is the release of all of the un-hidden characters that are at your disposal. And so, far, there are a TON of characters that you can play with. I'm not sure if you can play with all of the 23 characters shown right off the bat, but as one can imagine, they consist of 15 returning characters and 8 brand spanking new ones (Dragon King not included). Here's a breakdown of who's who in Deception:

HotaruNow, some random thoughts from yours truly, before I continue:
Cyber Smoke/Noob Saibot- Apparently, they have been united into one being....well, at least that's how the site puts it. Personally, I've been looking forward to seeing Smoke and the Noobster again. Unfortunately, by that I meant HUMAN Smoke, not his cyborg alter-ego. Now, I'm a bit confused at how they're actually going to pull this off if this is what I think this is....is Noob and Smoke one fighter that you can switch egos with during a fight? Or are they two fighters separately, Smoke just being controlled by Noob? Either way, they both look cool, but the premise still boggles the mind.
Jade- For the love of God, and all that is HOLY, go and download her wallpaper. NOW. You'll thank me for this. Just remember that I favour the blue notes, especially.
But holy catfish on a bar-be-que spit. Wasn't she dead? And Asian? Cement proof that you should NEVER follow the movie and the game's story as if they're one and the same. Either way.....green's a very good colour on her. VERY good.
Baraka/Kabal/Ermac- To Midway, I say.....IT"S ABOUT TIME. These were probably THE most popular characters in Mortal Kombat, and Baraka and Kabal happen to be personal favorites of mine. I won't expect to see anything like Blade Fury or Kabal's 10-hit from MK3 here (DAMMIT!
), but on the bright side, Kabal seems to have gotten his Hookswords back (Mweheehee!
) and Baraka......is just being his animalistic, berserk, head-chopping self. Joy. As for Ermac...I was wondering what took Midway so long. If anything, people would be playing this for HIM, considering all of the people who LIKE this badass. Well done, Midway. At least YOU know what to do when fans like characters....(HEY CAPCOM! Taking notes? Or will you let Dante and Viewtiful Joe keep the benches warm a bit longer? We're waiting.....)
Kobra - Oh, dear.
Let's just say Namco will have a FIT when they see this guy.
Apparently, Midway's having a Dan Hibiki moment. And if you thought the striking resemblence was lawyer-bait enough, just wait till you see the alternate costume.....
Shujinko/Ashrah- Dear God. Did Midway run out of ideas when it came to naming their characters? Jesus Christ. Honest to God, a chimp could come up with better names than that....while succumbing to the effects of pudding induced diarrhea.[/i]
Dairou/ Darius/Damashi- In response to the above, yes. Yes, they have. Can you say DYSLEXIA? I think you can.
Kabal, Kobra, Kira- And, in other news, Midway's addiction to the letter K worsens, up to the point where they name ALL of the members of the new Black Dragon with names all beginning with the letter 'K'. Just hope they add a fourth soon, or people will see the 3 'K's and get the wrong idea.....
By the way, any idea as to WHY Kabal is good, but his two friends are described on the site as evil? Just wondering....
Dairou- For those of you who don't already know this, Dairou was supposed to be in Mortal Kombat: Deception, but was excluded due to time factors. Sucks, dosn't it? Well, at least now we get him.....with a worse storyline, to boot. The man was reallly supposed to be a hired assassin for the Deadly Alliance, now he's reduced to a minion of the Realm of Order, sent to kill a character nobody will probably care about, on account of he looks like a dork (Hotaru). Meh. Let's just hope he kicks ass. That's all we wanted anyway. Well, wouldn't doubt it...he DOES look like Jet Li.....
Darrius- Let's hope that he's the type of guy who simply kicks ass and keeps his mouth SHUT. Jax practically annoyed me everytime I throw a punch and he goes 'Get some, SUCKA!'. For crying out LOUD. Since WHEN do people of African decent talk like Booker T? Geesh. Negative stereotyping iwmc. Let's hope the new dude does better.
As you also may have noticed, nearly ALL of the veteran characters are gone. This includes the likes of Sonya, Johnny Cage and Jax. To which I say (to some), GOOD RIDDANCE. I was seriously getting sick of seeing the same faces over and over again. Well...maybe not Sonya. She could stay. Yes. My preciousssss. (ahem)
Okay.
Others, I would not undertstand, not EVER, why they would be taken out of this game. Mavado's absence ticks me off especially. WHY, oh WHY, was he cropped out? Several endings suggested his return. Kabal's return from the dead and the new Black Dragon should have brought him back. He was even Ed Boon's favorite character after SCORPION, for crying out loud! I saw no reason to take him out....his absense in this sequel leaves too many plot holes to be filled.
Cyrax could have also stayed. Midway could improve his moves a bit, and it would be nice to see Cyrax square off against Smoke (or Sektor, if he's hidden in this game).
Frost. Oh, you bastards. I would not undertstand why you took out HER.
People LOVED Frost, and especially the irritating way she freezes the ground, and you can't crouch block it. Okay, so maybe my memories of her are less than warm right now (pun not intended), but still. She should have been one of the retuning characters, Talisman thief or not.
Well, that's enough blab from me.
I would go on about the instant death traps that can put an end to a match just like that, or how much cooler than Shao Korn-I mean, KAHN the Dragon King is, but, the fact is....I'm out of space and time.
I'll probably post more later when I return the next time, but you'll probably find out everything I'll say by visiting the site.
Also....I've got a little poll going on on my site regarding the premise of a new Mortal Kombat movie....be sure to check my site out and vote on it.
Also, here's the burning question...what do you guys think of this game, and the characters they have put in?
Well, till next time....
