Half life 2 will pre load on steam in 2 days!  Valve is preparing for final release!

Since Half-Life 2 is ~2 GB (or 16 Gb) over the wire, we can serve up about a person/second with a complete copy of the game. These are idealized numbers - the real capacity planning numbers are quite a bit lower.

Half Life 2 should be out within a month  or two... BE READY!

Doom III will be 0wned... doom III is an 'experience' requiring enourmous hardware to get the full effect of it....  rewarding to play it once but the gameplay is not the  replayable type . I'm not saying doom is bad, DOOM III RULEZ! but hl2 will own more .

For all those with a free HL2 ATI voucher, you NEED steam to download the game . Use an ERASER to rub off the coating that protects the CD key  under it, on the day of release create a steam account with the key [ if you don't have one ] or  use your existing account to go to 'games' and register your key for Half Life 2 .


 remember to install the latest  drivers for you card,  be sure to UNINSTALL the old drivers, restart, then install the new ones. not doing this can result in the creation of a 'mixed driver' consisting of elements of several driver versions [ i did it once]  which can cause serious bugs.

HL2 will  demand graphics power like far cry does...  and FX cards wouldn't cut it ,  any FX card will run half the speed of its ATI equivilant ... they run so slow in HL2 a 9600xt beats out a 5900 ultra. [ hl2 is to ati as doom 3 is to nvidia ]  .

if you are UPGRADING for Hl2 I recommend :
Budget upgrade : 9600 non pro 128mb , 100US online
medium range upgrade : 9800 128mb non pro : 180 USD online
high end upgrade : Geforce 6800 non ultra 256mb : 350 online  [  can soft mod to 6800 ultra ]

the benchmarks show that the Geforce 6 series is just behind the ATI cards... while the FX cards trail 30-50% .

/me drools for HL2

I need this game like Sonny needs Cher. This is my game of the year.
I was pissed with all the delays, but I can't turn my back on this game so easily. Not only HL2, but Counter-Strike 2 is gonna own all your mc base.

Only thing I need for this game is a new processor, even if I don't get to play it when it's released I'll play it soon after that. Either way I HAVE to play this game and nothing shouldn't stop me. I'll even attempt to play it on my PIII 866 I'm that desperate. Far Cry plays at a moderate framerate on this system (30-35fps) so I'm not too worried, but an upgrade is definitely in the near future. All for Half-Life

YES i'm saying a 9600xt will own a pro in HALF LIFE 2! the FX architecture sucks at processing the DX9 effects that HL2 uses! and just causeyou don't understand don't go saying that trini is a high mc who drinks rubbing alcahol

everyone with the ATI card voucher and DSL [ or 56k and alot of patience] get steam , and line up to download the bulk of the game! 56k ers will probably be able to dload all the games since its more than a month from release date right now .

Dread I own an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and I can safely say the 9600XT will not and cannot OWN the 5900 Ultra, thats just a lil bit much dude. All the same, i'd have to agree with getting at least a 9600XT and dude u should go for the 9800 Pro cause its not that much more expensive now, heck go for a 9800XT cause man Doom 3 runs WELL but i'd like to see it run BETTER. I am sure HL2 will rock on my sys, but still if I could upgrade, I would... (resta specs: 2600+ Barton, A7N8X-X, 512 HyperX, Audigy 1394, Diamond Max Plus 9 ATA133 w/ 8Mb buffer).

if you would look at the benchmarks u will see  : the 9600 pwnz the 5900 in full DX9 precision . The currant build of half life II and CS: source forces all FX cards into DX8 mode so that they can get smoother FPS... it may sound like crap but its true .

  9800xt is a 9800 pro with +45mhz... buy a big heatsink for your currant 9800 pro and u can reach XT speeds easy.
  If your looking to BUY a new card, wait till october for the X-700s, they are faster than 9800xt and in the 200 USD price range .  I myself am waiting till the R500 series comes out with SM3 , and 512mb cards [ early next year]  . 8500 plays all the games at smooth fps @1024x768, with a little tweaking , i can wait .
