a. monopoly
b. we don't have enough bandwidth to supply ourselves AS IT IS! TSTT has to limit us to 16k when we payed for 128
c. retarded government , who actually believe TSTT is a good thing [ it is , for their pockets ]
d. not that many people will use that bandwidth anyhow, many people with DSL wouldn't know the difference between 16k and 128k dload speeds anyhow .

A>So are you saying this based on facts or personal data and analysis?
B>Is it that TSTT can't get enough bandwidth coming from international servers to supply us with that speed or they simply just don't want to supply us with that speed?

P.S.These are serious questions i'm asking so don't take it like i'm saying it sarcastically :)

Do the math genius... 128 kilobits / 8 = 16 kilobytes

You are getting what you pay for if you're getting 16kb/sec.

I believe that one of the major reasons they limit our bandwitdh can be summed up in 4 letters... VOIP...they know what it can mean to their bottom line...so they try not to give you too much bandwidth for fear that you'll be calling abroad and they can't charge you for it.

It also doesn't help us much that the people that make the decisions on what to offer, don't know enough about what they're offering. 128kilobits...that sounds great! ...Can we charge them 3 or 4 times what it costs us? Yes?! Excellent! I'm gonna get a big fat bonus :D

indeed@getting what you pay for.

but yes, tstt feel dey could rob people easy, because most of them aint know better. they know about 56k dialup but when they see 128 they probably saying it 3 times faster so we go charge 3 times more. common sense iwmc.

carlsberg yuh talkin mess

trini is actually talkin sense for once( omfg did i just say that?)

tstt is duping people,  false advertisement and what not.
ON their website they quote the speed as 128 k
any net savy person would assume that to mean 128 KB because come on, who in the hell actually rates speed in kilo bits instead of kilobytes. That to me is unfair business practice.

THe reason why tstt doesnt give is more bandwidth, is not because they dont have the available bandwidth but simply because they can maximize their profits by making people pay large amounts of money, for less bandwidth than they deserve. So that they can squeeze in as many customers as possible, into a set block of bandwidth.

The amount of money it would take to increase the dial up bandwidth , along with giving us real 128 k dsl is very very small compared to the profits they make a year but... why would a nasty ass monopoly that is denying us our right of VOIP, do something right like giving us what we pay for.

Every ISP is rate Internet speed in kilobits so I fine all yuh have no point there and It's not false advertising since you are getting 128kilobits.Convert it to bytes and that's bytes. But thanks for the info fellas.Keep it coming if allyuh have more

after some  searching most the the other caribbean island have greater than 128 kb connections for adsl. The lowest top speed service i seen is 1mps. Some countries don't even have the 128 kbs service they start with 256

Yeah they do rate it in terms of bits, like a T1 is 1.544Mbits. That aside, yeah monopoly, though if u ban together enough ADSL lines it gets pretty fast, in UWI the sastudents side I have seen downloads of 192kbps downloading 100+ MB files in like under and hour dread.... ah to have to comehome to dial up....sad...

its probably cause tstt wants people to sign for dsl where they can make more money
plus when competition arrives people will be binded with contracts so the will have to stick with the
tstt dsl. (not to sure bout the contract thing so please forgive me if i am wrong)

yu are right with the contract thing
you are forced into a yearly contract if yu want tstt dsl

and yes the smaller islands have faster adsl

grenada has 1.5 mbps dsl stock

i know someone living there and hated everything about tstt when they came here

they have a wireless gigabit hot spot in their airport
and their gprs internet runs at dial up speeds.

Well the difference between bits and bytes are denoted by an uppercase “B” or lowercase “b”. If it says just 128k that is usually taken as kilobytes. The other thing is, ADSL service is simply expensive, and all the routing and booster servers actually cost a lot of money. DSL service is naturally weak in nature. For instance, the maximum length between a wall jack and your DSL modem is 10 feet of telephone wire. While the maximum length between the modem and the pc (whatever device) is 100 feet of cat 5, 6, or crossover or whatever cable you use. The signal strength has its limits so it need booster severs along the actual phone line in the streets. Tstt is naturally lazy and overly expensive; the government has no actual interest in breaking TSTT’s monopoly because they have shares in the company. YES, THEY DO! But I guess another major factor is the region and how pricing is worked. Korea actually has cheaper and faster ADSL than USA. Its 20 % cheaper per bit and 41% faster.
And as I sat down on the couch, reached down and grabbed the controller, I most nonchalantly looked over, barely gracing him with my eyes. I uttered calmly these simple and truthful words. \"Spread ur cheeks and bite down, cause now you are F*@%ED!\"

In some cafes with 128kb TSTT ADSL access i'v downloaded files at 250kbs+ , 'kilo bits' is usually the speed you see the connection connect at .
I believe there is a clause in some consumer affairs law which states false advertising is a crime  :)  , can someone verify that? if so ... we can sue TSTT enough money to buy our own dishes and pretend they are direct TV [ i'v seen it on the net, 1200 US for dish, 200 a month for 5mbp/s dload, 1mb/s upload , service available in Tdad, pings are >150] We could supply our neighbourhoods via Wi Fi and help pay it off  [ government is supposed to liscensce Wi-Fi frequincies to make them FREE ]
