Ive been scouring the net looking for ram, found some exceedingly attractive prices for pc 3200 ram, especially the 1 gig packages, but of course, the attractive price is only there because it is "generic" ram.

What are your thoughts on the performance, and the risk involved in generic or non big brand name ram?

Is the cheap price worth the risk?

it depends on how much cheaper it is than branded...but personally i like branded memory

Generic memory die suddenly for no reason. We lost 5 stick in 2 months where i work.

U should always go with brand name memory......it is more reliable and has better warranties......like kingston

well when i say that generic ram has a hugee price difference from branded ram, i mean huge!

1 gig of generic ddr 400 ram :$111 USD
1 gig of kingston ddr 400 ram:$215 and over USD

Depends on the generic RAM.

You want no worries, buy Kingston, Crucial or some boutique brand.

aye i have 2 sticks of 1GB ram from kingston, an it was real cheep too for 1GB.cant remember how much it was, but i bought em off amazon.com

It all depends on your uses. There are good generic and bad generic as with all things. Even with brand name stuff you do occassionally get crap... but generally speaking, yes, you get what you pay for...or less. You can always go cheap brand name...

generic R / // is usable , don't expect to overclock it or to run it at low latencies. Make sure u get a good warranty with it too .
