i believe talib is from the 'really old school' that calls the cpu/chassis the "hard drive".

Clean out your temp files, scandisk, defrag, and delete some applications you are not using.  Heh.

The PC i have now is a disaster. It is slower then George Bush and if thats not bad enough, it gave trouble from day one. I can no longer even run Flight Simulaton 2002 any more cuz it is so slow. It has been in for repairs over 25 times in the 2 yrs that i've had it and that isnt an exageration. I installed Bf 1942 on it and it moved like a flip comic. It's terrible.
If i can find a good, reliable computer for a good price that won't frig up like my last, maybe my parents might consider purchasing it.
I do not want the entire package cul i have a 17'' monitor ang good enuf speakers. I'm quite happy with my keyboard but my mouse is so much s**t that no cat wud go near it.

Ah.

Well, some advice for power computing on the cheap.  Not the fastest, but Good Enough.  I'm giving a range of prices.

Asus mobo (SiS 745 chipset).  Onboard CMI 8738 sound is Good Enough.  ($600 or thereabouts)

AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (or whatever is a good cheap chip)  ($600-$800)

Any card based on a Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 440 64 MB DDR or Radeon 8500 ($ 350 - $800)

40-60 GB hard drive.  7200 RPM, using Maxtor or Seagate HD.  ($ 600 max.  Can use old HD.

Logitech optical mouse (USB)  Any of the MX series if you can afford it.

10/100 network card.  $40 - $60.  Get one with a nice generic Realtek chipset.

Reuse the floppy drive, keyboard, modem, (about $100 max if you have to replace it), old HD (as a slave to the new HD), CD-ROM/DVD/CD-RW from the old machine.  Not to mention the OS.

Or you could just scandisk, defrag and clean out the temp files on your old machine.

Given that you bought the machine two years ago, it should still be fast enough to run stuff, unless there's something you aren't telling us like low RAM or an onboard "shared memory" video card.  The machine wasn't a hand-me-down from someone, was it?

16 MB Onboard memory.  Huge cause of slowness.

500 mhz.  A bit too slow to run modern games, but decent to run Linux or do word processing/spreadsheet/web surfing/email.

New basic machine needed.  I'll price it out for you later today.

What's the size of the case?
See if u can save ur case,if not it's around 300-400 for a good one witha 400W power supply if i'm not mistaken
It shouldn't run u more than 3000 to rebuild one..

He might need a new case in truth.  Should not need more than a 350 W power supply.

He does not know how to say it properly, but all he needs is a new tower. 30Gb, 2Ghz and about 512ram. No screen, keyboard, no frills. He wants a flat price for a good tower. Come to think it, so do I....
