And therein lies the problem...it's a bit odd that the Intel home front for 64-bit is so quiet. 64-bit at home isn't needed yet, so Intel is just maxing out 32-bit, probably working on something that will blow the Athlon 64 out of the water by the time those bugs are worked out.

Either way, this shall be interesting.

wtf. did you read the stuff on tomshardware at all? tom said:
1. the lead is marginal
2. the p4EE is just a xeon relabelled. ie. a server class chip which is lablelled to compete in the consumer market
3. AMD's marketing of 64 bit is much more active and visible than Intel's
4. the p4EE was a 'knee-jerk' respose to AMD's recent hard work just meant to shut people up.

now the AMD64 may turn out to be a bad move, but you just cant look at the numbers and scream 'weak' like a biatch with no context. (no disrespect, nitrate.)

true

AMD is the ones who needs to not come screamin into the arena

they do all that "hard work" and got blown away by a 32 bit chip

true is a xeon and in that sense it not fair to amd to pit it against the athlon 64
but what did they expect intel to do?

fight fair?

In business there sis no fair and unfair.

There is only good and better. Speculation is irrelevant at this point, let's look at the facts. AMD's 64 chip was blown away by another chip....a 32 bit chip. Regardless of the brand of the chip it was superior. AMD has to go go back to the drawing board and fix their mistakes or Xerox the architecture for the most efficent chip on the market now....with some slight difference not affecting performance of course.

Especially since the Athlon 64 is priced to compete with a damn Xeon.

If AMD had played market favourites and stuck with some pretty low pricing, akin to their current chip price points. All would be well.

Instead, they want to ask for top dollar, placing the chip squarely in range for a remarked Xeon. Serves them right.

I case allyuh didn't know... tom's has more or less been discredited by alot of shady tactics...

Please read other reviews of the Athlon64 and FX... The FX beats the 3.2 EE cpu hands down in every game except for Q3... apart from that this cpu KILLS the existing 3.2 ghz 800fsb HT cpu from intel (hell, even the Athlon64 whoops its tail in games)

Now... we also have to take into account that these games are 32bit running on a 32bit OS. Epic has stated that ut2003 benches go up by up to 25% when it is running under 64bit mode...

The CPU war is not over by a longshot... the most exciting times are going to be in the coming months. Intel is definately on the defensive as indicated by their hasty introduction of the EE cpus

I figure we'll see the Athlon 64 pretty soon... not the high end Athlon FX... I heard that they already sold out 0_0
