SWKotOR problems

Each time I launch Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic it reaches the loading page and crashes. It causes system errors and I get Windows error report messages. I also lose the windows bar at the bottom and get the System has recovered from a serious error msg when I restart...
Anyone has any idea what could be causing this problem?

2600+ Barton
512MB HyperX Kingston PC2700
WinXP Pro
Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb
Catalyst 4.6 Drivers

KOTOR is probably the best game ever made...

but it has ISSUES like all ports do..

on my system it can range from 14FPS to 35 FPS on the same spot, lookin at the same thing all the time.. [ at 1600x1200 with aniso on etc. ]

Try patching it to the latest version, and use drivers from www.omegacorner.com instead of ATI standard [ less bugs, faster] ..

make sure you unistall the old drivers b4 u use the new ones.


KOTOR is a slow paced game so u don't need alot of fps to enjoy it..

Sounds like a driver issue to me. Try rolling back to 4.2 or thereabouts and see if it helps any. If you running a VIA-based mobo, make sure you have the latest Hyperion drivers for it also.

the cat 4.6 real fast, ati come real good with them, no more slowdown in KOTOR

Well it would seem that something on the system didn't like KotOR maybe a (M$ update patch or soemthing) I did a clean re-install of W1nXP and now all is well mostly.... the game crashes every 15-20 mins or so but it runs smoothly otherwise so I can live with it.... thanx for all the advice all the same

You can live with the crashes?? However, I don't understand why the game still crashes after a clean install. That's not suppose to happen.

Did you check any KOTOR or ATi forums  to see if anyone else has a similar problem?

I'm using Catalyst 4.6 right now, I will try the 4.2 driver and see what goes on there

its the game itself

i have one of the best dells (no XPS...let the booing start) and i got t he same prob in the beginning

but i playin good now but every time (randomly) i go thru a loading screen after an auto save( sometimes not) it crashes also

but wth...its kotor and it owns...i rather it working halfway than not working at all

I installed the Catalyst 4.2 drivers and the game now runs like a charm, try those drivers out guy (butter knife)  they're worth it, no crashes.... a lil slower than 4.6 but hey nothing to get vex about once UT2004 running properly as well

I believe that the PC version had two extra crystals not found on the X-Box version
(could be mistaken it has been a while)

I can't remember the names

a crystal which made the blade sky blue and one which made it orange (for the center slot)

changed the properties of the other crystals placed with them, making them more powerful

availabe from the Rodian at the station in orbit around yavin only after multiple visits and some "interaction" with other npc's at the same station

not too sure if they were exclusive for PC but remember reading something to that effect

i'v seen my bro get 2 lightsabers with 50 damage each using the 'secret' crystals. after  1 hit EVERYTHING and ANYTHING is DEAD.

Hmm my post has turned into a PC vs Console chatroom... sad.... anyways the 4.2 drivers work fine, however I ran into a new issue, I tend to save alot due to my past shortcomings with the games crashing...  however last time I saved the game crashed and I lost all my save files!!! whats up with that??? and I had beaten the game and was 60% through it with a different character on the light side dammit....
