Previous research has already shown that even at red-hot temperatures as high as 650°C SiC devices can work unperturbed and without cooling.

imagine the overclocking potential

the will probably design the chips to run at 5ghz+ without fans.... that might mean a simple cooling system will alow us to clock it like mad.      Quad Core chips won't  have ANY trouble .......

it will take years for all the big manufacturers to moove over to this... but it will be worth it.

while this is extrememly good in term of being able to oc the technology got a long way to go before we start using it by that time we be using pc chip with 65nm circuitry . but the problem with this tech isn't that it will hamper grouth but mother board will have to made of other material to suppoert such heat . if u oc a chip to the temp they ask  the plastic socket will melt or in case of the new 756 chipset ( sorry if wrong number ) it will burn through the mother board so fan and heatsinks will still be needed

the CPU doesn't put out 650 degreees, they put it in a ROOM that was 650 degrees without hsf and it didn't fry.

cpu currently generate alot of heat .it is possible for them to rise to red hot temp if they were made with this stuff and had no heatsink and fan

true if you left  a silicon carbide prescott on for a few days without a heatsink it would melt the board ,  and it may not even completely replace standard silicone because of cost . We can't really make assumtions years in advance,   we'll have to wait and see.

plastic socket's arent the only ways to make CPU sockets... u can use silicon self to make CPU sockets, but plastic is more econ-feasible. an das y it is be used.but den agaogy an mass production etc will bring down the price of whatever they come up with

if this occur i wonder if pc will then be able to compete with mac g5's
but still it would be really good for moster computer users

Interesting material, but even so, think of the power consumption of something at that even 1/4 of that temp, it just wouldn't be feasible.
