We don't need to classify bands in genres.
Some call deftones the beginning of NuMetal. And Chevelle as NuMetal.
It's not the class, it's what the band is feeling at the point of conception.
I've heard Matchbox 20 play metal
I've heard blink play metal
I've heard Metallica play pop
CHevelle's "one lonely visitor" is acoustic. that makes them folk?
And I still stand my opinion that Slipknot is just noise

so based on what u said here, that means that even mudvayne could be metal, right? cause their song 'World So Cold' really has great instrumental value...... ah mean the drums and the guitars......

Bob ur post is very much in place here cuz for some of you ppl if you didn't know Iron Maiden (arguable the most influential Metal Band EVER) had heavy punk influence and this can be heard in their first self titles album mainly in the song Iron Maiden..
