ABIT : NF7 : UBER!!!
« on: April 25, 2004, 03:33:57 PM »
the Abit nf7 options support an option that will unlock any athlon processor for overclocking, it will pull back the clock speed if the CPU gets too hot, the Vcore can reach 2.2 volts [ highest ever ] making for high over clocks.

The Abit NF7 comes with 6 channel sound blaster class audio , the higher end mobos come with Soundstorm : audio as good as an audigy 2, faster , cheaper .

The abit NF7 is one of the fastest  Nforce 2 mobo there is, supportind dual DDR 400 etc.

thinking of an A7N-8x ASUS? think AGAIN! this will own it .

I was a big ABIT fan, they pioneered over clocking and ease of use features.

Taking the tech out of technology and even though I am a Techie, this is a strategy I agree with completely. Ultimate ease of use.

When Asus was still pushin jumpers, ABIT gave you jumperless overclockin'

Sweet!

But I wouldn't recommend a NF7 at this stage of the game. The Socket A is already dead. AMD has moved on to the 64Bit platform and that is where a new mobo purchase should go.

Especially given the fall in pricing on Athlon 64 mobos.

I have seen the SIS based ones for as low as US$70

the athlon 64 2800 is at 180 USD, and since most likely it is just a 3200 clocked lower and with half its cache disabled, some tweaking would give you some nice performance...

then again , the athlon XP mobile can reach 2.9 GHZ stable with a good heatsink, at that clock it ownz the 3.2 ghz P4s at everything but memory managment .

i'm trying my best to get an NF-7 , AMD is planning to release a successor to the  athlon XP , when it comes out i could probalby get an athlon XP 3200 for around 100 USD... with the nforce 2 SPP's 400mhz FSB and high speed i will be flying.

xp 3200 is less bang for the + than it's younger brothers.

It also has extreme heat dissipation issues. You could fry an egg on that chip. (Mind you, Intel has the same issue with prescott)

The Athlon 64 beats not only the intel offerings hands down, but also his Barton siblings.

Better to rock with that. It will run cooler and your mobo will thank you for it.

Asrock has a new SIS based mobo out now. US$70-80

Nice to know that you will be ready for the 3800+ and faster cpus as well.

Ps...What is the going price of the NF7?

I read some very interesting info that the AMD XP's will be ditchin the Socket A sometime this year for the 754 pin of the AMD64 line..

hence you could buy a mobo for an XP proc, and upgrade to AMD64 without changing motherboards .. ( nice )

on the other hand however, socket A will be phased out by next year .. ie. investements in socket A rite now is not worth it

Are you working for Abit? Quite some PR there!

NF7 is 2nd on my list. Though there are a few different model and revisions of it, and not all made equal. Lately newer ones are sucking in the overclocking dept.

2.2v is NOT the highest vcore available for an amd mobo. Not that you should ever use that high on just air cooling (or even highend air for that matter). Most modern amd mobos have the temperature "throttle" feature which I think is only slightly less useless as Intel's version on P4.
Once the nforce2 has MCP-T then it has soundstorm. BUT not all soundstorm solutions are equal as they use various frontends such as cmedia and realtek...AND NO it cannot compare to and audigy2...audigy1 perhaps. Faster? Well I am assuming you mean lower cpu utilization. If so then yes. But then creative are the worst when it comes to drivers.

Most nforce2 mobos can do dual ddr400 and above, whether stated officially or not.

SocketA is NOT DEAD and won't be until a64s can be had for under ~100us. Point in favor, Nvidia's newest socket462 creation...nforce400gb.

MOBILE XPs CANT reach 2.9Ghz, not without vapor phase cooling and above.

At that clock it would beat a P4 4.0Ghz+.

Memory bandwidth doesn't mean as much anymore, well not in real world performance anyway. P4 platform has 2x the memory bandwidth over AMD by default, yet in most cases you don't see AMD losing in memory bandwidth craving programs...well not by 2x at any rate!

XP sucessor will be an a64 variant for socket 939.

Now they ditching s754 for 939 before end of year.

the athlon XP mobile was designed to be cool and use low power, on good air cooling it can reach 2.9GHZ... but it is not any better than an athlon FX for most tests..

Yes they are but there is only so much can be squeezed out of any tech.

Again I reply, NO.

For all intent and purposes it CANNOT reach 2900Mhz. Perhaps there is the occasional rare one that can come close too, or maybe equal, but only on high end air with air around 15 degress celcius or less I'd say. Still the odds of such is too low such that I consider it effectively a NO.

Feel free to provide evidence of otherwise.
