I've seen it already

Most of you will want to compare it to Crouching tiger hidden dragon (piece of trash movie)

I suggest you dont

One more thing its big on dialogue and fight scenes although good are few and far between. So adrenaline addicts with an attention span the size of a peanut should steer clear .

You didnt like Crouching Tiger? I guess you know that all that flying and running on water stuff is shown because the movie is based on Chinese folklore and beliefs? Where a person could reach a higher plane with their martial arts skill to the point where they can defy the laws of nature.

If you read a Chinese folktale you will understand. Years ago stories were exagerated to the point of absurdity, but it was believed to be true. All the talk about huge dragons and and millions of soldiers on battle and so on. Thats how they were, and the movie reflects the story from that perspective.

But still, inspite of that people didnt like the movie. Well, different strokes for different folks right :)

That's why I think this movie won't do very well in Trinidad cinema.

Not in its original form at least.

People didn't like Crouching Tiger for three reasons: The romance, the talking, and the overdone imaginary effects.

Hero has twice as much of those things as Crouching Tiger did...probably more.

It's visually striking, colorful, artistic etc...but it's also downright boring in some parts.

And to make matters worse, the plot is convoluted as hell.

If people were steupsing for the jumping around in CTHD, I will ove to see the expression on their faces for that water fight scene.

But that's people...I thought Hero was okay, but too drawn out, kinda boring and confusing. The fighting was inconsistent in my opinion. Great in some parts, weak in others.

I loved Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon...enjoyed the story much more, the fighting more, and the romance subplot more.

Its not that i didnt enjoy CTHD (forgive the harsh statement b4)

Its just that im really sick of people referring to the movie as if it were the holy grail of martial arts movies.

And Shivadee ive been watching kung fu movies since i was able to stand up in my crib. I know the origin of the kung fu movie genre and how it evolved from the Peking opera . Most of the Peking opera's performances  were folk tales and of hero's performing incredible feats.

I just whole heartedly believe the movie to be very overrated.

I'm not going to pretend that I know tons about the genre, but I think CTHD brings up a real important issue...

How many Kung Fu movies can actually stand on the strength of their stories and theatric performances?

Not that they have to eh man...because a good martial arts movie is a mix of the acting and the fighting.

But still...CTHD had some great acting and a really deep, enjoyable storyline...first and foremost. I haven't seen many other kung fu movies that made me care much about story or characters. Fist of Legend is probably the only one...and Drunken Master.

The fighting was top-notch as well. Not the best ever, but definitely high-level.

I think it's the mix of both components that gave it its acclaim.

Id have to say none that ive seen they are few and far between. On that we can agree. But my opinion was probably biased from the beginning  as ive mostly just watched kung fu movies for the obvious reasons.Being a MA and all its what got me started not the acting.
But I can see your point.

btw how do you prefer your KF movies Chinese dub eng sub or Eng dub

lol...amm...hm.

A good English dub for dramatic ones like CTHD, and a lame English dub for the cornier ones.

Yeah!

Hero looks good but given that the people who did CTHD are doing it,I know it'll suck.

I HATED CTHD,and even in Hong Kong is was considered a mediocre movie by the public.
The feats were absurd and the story ridiculous.Believe me,Chinese legends like Guan Yu or Sagacious Lu never did crap like that.

Thank You very much! I can understand that it is a good movie by it's own merits (stories and theatric performances). But's it's not what the Kung Fu movie genre should hold as it's pinnacle of achievement....

Pei Mei not even in it....

Unlike, FIST OF THE WHITE LOTUS, which is deserving of al honor....go rent it if u want to know what REAL kung fu is about.
Zetsumyoken......the Miracle Sword descends

ent, I was watchin a kick up @ euro de other day and it was so lame it wasn't even funny.

Now mind you, the same exact flick was a "big theatre" back in the day. All these gradually improving kick up movies have sullied these oldies.

Iron Monkey was an especially good recent kick up that comes to mind.
