News from Infinium Labs
« on: May 14, 2004, 08:57:17 AM »
Looking at the streaming video from E3 Insider today i came accross their preview of Infinums new Phantom system.

The launch date is set for Nov 18th and the games are downloaded through their service, broadband only of course.

THe really amazing thing is their sales pitch. They are having a style like a cell phone company. If you sign up for 2 years service from Infinum you get the Phantom system FREE. What remains to be seen is the price of this 2 year subscription.

720 a year?!! wow!.......

you could build a hi end PC with 720 US.... and get your games through your "sources"

but the phantom has more power than any console on the market... we would see better looking games

I hope so. Infinum comming into the console market REALLY late. In a year the new consoles are out and really all the console owners are pretty much settled in this gen consoles. Their sales are going to be low. To add to that, how many companies are going to continue making games for this company if they dont do well. They dont have the financial resources like SONY or Microsoft.

I honestly think this is a very bad managerial decission by Infinum. I think they are rushing out the console in an attempt to beat the next console market, but really people are more anticipating Zelda, Metroid, RE4, Halo2, Metal Gear 3, etc etc on the consoles.

i think this their system be more like a computer systems with games on demand then they could make some sales plus tv res is 640x480 so 5700 is all it will need

There was a great investigative feature that pointed towards the Phantom, and Infinium Labs itself, being some sort of investor scam.

I'll try to get a link for it, but basically it revealed that the guy behind the whole thing is a well-known scammer who's been sued (or arrested) for this sort of thing more than once. The article also revealed that Infinium Labs' office space isn't used (the infamous single phone on a desk in an empty large office), and that their mailing adress is a post box far away from any real company activity.

Supposedly, the Phantom is a way to make investors put millions into a product (and more importantly, management's pockets) that will never really make it.

Anyay, don't take my word for it...lemme find link.

oo not surprised... the phantom had no big advertisments anywhere and
i see none of the hotter games mentioning a phantom version..
probably gonna be like another dreamcast, technology before its time for the console, not enough developers supporting it..

it does sound kinda interesting, in a niche market kinda way. The whole play on demand pc-games thing would be good for gaming cafes and stuff. except it's too damn expensive, really really expensive. you better off just renting the game

hhahaha @ george forman grill

Is high time a console that runs native PC games hits.

I want them to stop this nonsense of console porting.

Give the console masses a damn PC in sheeps clothing. I hoped the Xbox would have been it.....but they didn't let native PC games run (for many good reasons, none of which I find favour with)

/me crosses fingers and hopes the phantom doesn't turn out to be another Ngauge.
