lara has alot more money than bovell
ALOT
and trust me i know....
every year the icc gives him stuff that he just sells for money
Bovell deserves atleast something, never mind if he is rich or not
that does not say anything
the man giving to the country......
he deserve something in return

boy trinidadians is the worst. never give back nothing to this country nah. york (the footballer who play for manchester) do something like that and put his country first...where is he now?

trinidians does forget too fast, if you make a mistake or let them down one bit they done forget about you long time. eh make sense doing nothing for this country, that is why men with talant does go abroad. alot more appreciation, alot more money, and people go remember you for years to come

Bovell vs. Lara
« Reply #21 on: April 16, 2004, 10:42:18 PM »
i choose lara
because after 10 years since he sparked the world with his brilliant performance
he proved to the world 10 years later that brilliance doesnt fade away
it is true
bovell is quite good at what he does
but bovell is an upcoming star
lara is a current star
so lara will obviously get more coverage than anyone else

but this really shouldnt be a debate
because there are many atheletes in this country
that i am sure non of you all even heard of
but they are still represting this country
and representing it well
for example
this country is currently hosting an international tennis tournament
with players coming from over 30 different countries
with players ranked as high as #142 in the world
playing in age groups under12 under 14 under 18 boys and girls
and our country has two 13 year olds playin in the under 18 division
a boy and a girl
michael clarke and olivia bennett
michael clarke played a 17 year old boy from the USA who is the number 1 player in the tournament
in the quarterfinals
the entire draw consisted of 80 players
that is a great acomplishment for someone his age
olivia bennett played a 16 year old girl from  France  who is the number 2 player in the tournament
in the quarterfinals
the entire draw consisted of 64 players
that is a great accomplishment for someone her age
and she also teamed up with someone from the US to play doubles
but unfortunately they lost in the finals
yet it is a great accomplishment
and note
both michael and olivia
recieved scholarships to attend the world renowed tennis academy in florida
by the name of performance tennis academy
where only the best are able to be
and they made it there and it is a great accomplishment
if you look in 2days papers
you will see but only a little piece of info about it
because the sport itself does not  recieve much attention
which really sucks

football gets the most attention
but our football team aint that good
we never made it to the world cup
yet country continue to pump the most funds into the sport
that is very sad

DONT HATE THE PLAYER
HATE THE GAME!!!

re: Ato.  He was hosting, with Chris Pirillo and Cat.

I surprised that men still talkig about Sportsman of the Year for 2003.

Lara deserve to win that.  1000 Test runs in a calendar year, and nuff nuff get on.  This is not to belittle Bovell.  The man do REAL good.

It come like this year.  The man break two short course world record brisk brisk, but he go hadda deal with the 400.

ok guys
we all know that I love cricket and that I love lara
however, we have to give \"jack his jacket\", we have a rising star in Bovell a trini swimmer, who has recently broken a world record..... most of you might not know this or may have forgotten by now...

but why...
why is it that lara was on the front page for 3 days? and Bovell not once?
why is it the PM is giving Lara an \"unprecidented and extraordinary gift\" and Bovell got $100,000.00.

We have to question in this country if we are encouraging diverse sports, we cannot only focuse on cricket and football..... if we show our citizens we encourage all sports such as swimming, track and field etc. then they will strive to do better.

I think Bovell got a rather short end of the stick and I think it is not fair....

any comments would be greatly appreciated... or am I the only one who shares this view?

This is like comparing apples to oranges ...

If bovell were to win an olympic gold and set an olympic/world record, then you will surely see the accolades come pouring in for him.

The olympics games is the pinacle for swimmers, there is no cricket in the olympics.

Its not a simple matter of breaking a record and getting a stadium named after you....

Bovell has done more than Ato where? How? When?

Steups.

He has a record. That's great. How many Olympic medals does he have? How much has he done for the country in terms of social and civic activities?

Lara has multiple records, and is one of the best players in his sport.

Bovell is still on the rise. As great as the record is, he still needs to accomplish much, much more to approach the status of Lara and Boldon.

Lara has broken the most prestigious cricket record twice. He regained the record at one of the lowest times in terms of morale that his team has ever encountered.

And as unfortunate as it is, there are simply some sports that get more exposure locally for whatever reason. Swimming is nowhere as popular as cricket. The West Indies has a long history with cricket. It means something socially and historically that we, former colonies, are able to compete and surpass our former colonizers in a sport that they created and once dominated.

Lara is the poster boy for that...and he has accomplished more. So he gets more exposure.

Not too hard to figure out. No conspiracy either.

If Bovell follows up his record with a medal-winning performance, he'll have his time in the limelight.

my only problem is that I don't think Lara did anything to win sportsman of the year last year
just because he had a good year doesn't mean that he is the best sportsman
I would think that there is more to being a Sportsman than that

but right now ye art correct, Bovell hasn't done much to speak of

look
the Gov't has a right to give ppl thngs for their achievements
just because they rich does not mean they don't deserve it
they went and sweat and sacrfice to reach where they are
they should be rewarded
and they are and i think a just and fair PM would reward them
for accomplishments
you go and do something to and you will get money

I am not a Trinidadian but I am a Lara fan. I am Jamaican. I do follow sports a lot though. Bovell cannot be compared with Lara, Bovell needs to perform at the highest level and win some gold medals in the olympics before he can come on par with Lara.

Right now Lara has done something no one else has done not even the great Don Bradman. Lara is probably number three in the all time list of greats at this point behind the Don and Sir Gary.
