help w/DSL and P2P /bit torrent etc
« on: April 06, 2004, 04:45:18 PM »
ok i just got the new speedstream DSL router and surfing is nice and all, but i cant get eMule and bittorrent to work.

I triend opening the relevent ports, no dice
i tried turning off the firewall completely, no dice

so is TSTT blocking my ports, the router suck or both?
what other services do you use on DSL successfully?

TSTT loves to block ports and servers.... it might be the windows built in firewall too , sometimes it has a bug that blocks vital ports . TSTT sux anyhow.

edonkey is THE best place to get files, bloody slow sometimes.

oh i forgot about the windows firewall
hmm
it didnt work
do you really have to call tstt? individually? for specific ports?

send an email to sysadmin@tstt.net.tt

with the words "shut down the mofo firewall alyuh mc mcmcmcmcmcm" in the subject line.

Throw in your Drivers Permit number and all will be well.

Apart from that, you could call the TSTT Helpdesk and ask for Paul (he's a gatt member) and he'll organise for yah.

Baego's right...you just need to email sysadmin@tstt.net.tt stating that you want their firewall removed. Include the account username, the DSL phone line number and that should be sufficient to get it rolling. Note tho that their policy states that "it can take up to 24hrs to remove it". My boss call and rough up some fella in the server room and he remove it in less thean 1 min tho ;)

Oh and Baego...you self...TSTT Helpdesk (824-TSTT)...thas like tryin to call Bob Marley, cos u's never get thru :P

I always like the face to face meeting, gets things done a hell of a lot faster. About 65% of the time the phone works to, but not quite as effective.

While I understand placing a firewall on their end, I'd like to know why they blocked so much on it. When I got my DSL line hooked up, aside from P2P services being blocked off, I also couldn't connect to mIRC. WDA. I shouldn't have to call asking to disable the firewall so I could use that stuff.
Have you ever wished things just were?

*Usually* they ask you before enabling it, at least that's what they did when they installed our first ADSL line at the office, the technician asked if we'd like it, to which I questioned...why wouldn't I? He then informed me of the loss of P2P, VPN etc and I promptly told him...no thanks. However, we just acquired a second ADSL line, and I'm thinking that since I had to go pickup the modem from Corporate Services and install it myself, nobody was there to ask whether to urn it on or off and so they turn it on by default...dat was some stress, had to send email and make calls and all kinda drama...

imo, they've got it too tight-knit...they need to relax their firewall a bit. I can understand their urge to protect users, but I think they're takin it a bit too far...
