THe Matrix Trilogy thread
« on: March 25, 2004, 03:59:28 PM »
Ok so there may very well be another thread like this that was around when the M2 and M3 (as i call them) were out. But I just thought i would bring up the topic once more in the wake of the release of Rev on DVD. You can get it in some DVD stores now, god knows how these people get them before release but whatever. Personally i think it is the best trilogy since the Original Star Wars trilogy back in the 80's

Now, I have no qualms with anyone who didnt like the movie. I totally respect that and all, but at least have a better reason than:

"That movie was sh!t...........byeeeeeeeee" or "How ah man could fight so, dat lame, i gorn" You know what i mean.

So for those that care lets get started. I spent alot of time picking this movie appart, the Animatrix as well, and played the game. All the pausing and zooming in on backgrounds were done and all that. I took alot of time in the visuals as to what you see.

And now we have the phylosophical part of the trilogy, which is one of the biggest debates in the trilogy. All the MWaM (matrix within a matrix) theory and all the Sati is THE ONE theory - all bogus by the way. (ok i see ppl already firing up their keyboards)

Then theres the religious aspect. NEO being like god and all. Well yes i guess, but this movie is based alot on theory and phylosophy moreso than that of religion, but there ARE religious intonations in the movies (resurection and such). Personally i would come right out and say this part of the trilogy is not my strongpoint, and the fact that i dont know much about other religions apart from my own (Hindu) would attest to this (well for me then). I have managed to pull apart this entire trilogy, piece by piece and manage to interpret it using more scientific knowledge and theory rather than religious. After all religion is about faith, those that are not of the faith would have trouble believing in some things, however if logic proves a theory right, then indeed it should be.

Which brings us to my little saying i have about the entire trilogy

"Extrapolations and speculation MAY have logic, but can only bring about more skepticism and doubt"

Ok basically i mean that yes a theory may be right, it may sound right, but really, look how off base the theory is. One guy says it takes 4756 years to reload the matrix, then he pulls out some idea about a psalm from the bible using these numbers in some order. You get what im trying to say here. This person thinks that it takes this long because when the matrix was being rebooted in Rev at the end the area he saw on the screen looked like about 1 foot squared (sidewalk reeboot scene) and therefore he extrapolated. Nonsense, and really just pointless.

Then there are other questions. Why do they wear sunglasses? Why do they use humans as energy when scientific theory tells us that humans barely generate this much energy mentioned? Why is it that the machines didnt build their 01 in the sky above the clouds where it was sunny and had sunlight? - AHA.........still thinking like a human i see.

Alot of people came out of Rev disgruntled. What happened to all those 10 page theories about 01 being ZION and that the 6 versions of the Matrix mean that Merv was a previous ONE. Again, not paying attention.

What was the trilogy all about? THE ONE

OK then, what was THE ONE? Balance

Who created THE ONE? WHY? Why the hell we need a Matrix anyway? well i guess alot of you know or have a good reason.

So lets begin......

The Matrix was an awesome movie. Its background was indeed about living in a world in which machines took over, but it did have some religous background; Neo being their saviour and all. It was well put together and I really enjoyed it, but if you try to understand the Matrix completely you will drive yourself mad.

It was just plain awesome! 8)

BTW: The sunglasses was jus for style

Well initially the sunglasses were thought to be for style. Again notice how nearly all of them wear sunglasses.

There are various reasons people have, some really outlandish and some making good sense.

One is that the glasses force you to use your rods rather than your cones. The cones see colour and the rods see black and white. In the dark you notice you cant see colour as well and mostly see in black and white (if not then you should have noticed :)). Wearing the shades is a way to prevent them from seing the colour of this fictional world and see it for what it is, black and white...........ONES and ZEROS......personally i think its not a bad theory.

A more plausible one can be that it symbolizes power. Police officers, military people, agents and such wear shades. The shades can be used to just show that they are enlightened and are not governed like the rest of the people. When they were in the Matrix they would be governed by what they see as real. Now they are free (so to speak) and wear the shades as a form of protection when on the battlefield, a shield even.

Another reason. WHat you see is what you believe ( Morphs little speech in M1). Again the use of shades. the song "THE EYES OF TRUTH" from the M1 soundtrack (the opening song at the title screen on the DVD) again the use of "eye" to symbolize its meaning.

They wear shades to remind themselves or show themselves as who they are. They are aware of their surroundings and their environment. And really, they just look dread in dem :)

This was said by the person who acted as one of the ZION COUNCIL. He was also a PHd at Cornell University, so he know what he talking about. He was so moved and intrigued by the trilogy. Another great mind (michio kaku )you see him on screensavers, hes a quantum physicist (spelt right?) and loved the trilogy.

I think that they normally where shades and or black clothes so that they would recongnize each other should any complication arise in their exploits in the matrix.

For instance.  If Morpheus were in a heavily crowded location with ppl everywhere and he was looking for a contact from some other ship whom he deosn't know, he looks for black clothes and shades to identify he/she in the shortest possible time as that would be very easy to discern above the clutter.

so why Switch does wear white?
why you seing Others like Bane and Niobi in brown and green clothes (green like the MATRIX green).
nah not really. There are only 10 ships in ZION that have crew on them. They would know all the people.
Brahma, Logos, Osiris,Gnosis, Vigilant,Mjoinir (Hammer), Caduceus,Icarus, Nebacadnezzar and Novalis. You bonks up most of the captains and crew in the beginnig of Reloaded.

plenty plenty research dread. I also bought the book THE GOSPEL RELOADED. Doh get tie up, its not only what it appears to be. Its the best book on the trilogy (interpretation that is) since its the only one to incorporate all 3 movies unlike the the other books (Taking the red pill) that only talk about 1. And we all know M1 is just the tip of the iceberg.

hmm, interesting indeed.

More than alot of thought has gone into this, i can tell.  But sometimes one can over look even the simplest of explanations.

It would make more than enough sense that they wear shades b/c of where they live.  Underground.  They're used to artificial light and dark surroundings.  It's irritating to constantly getting used to natural light everytime, so i think that the shades would come in quite nicely.   8)

Not mentioning the fact that they look cool.  But like I said, I've only seen the move, I dont know much on this subject.  I would like to say that the fight scenes in Rev. turned me off however from the movie trilogy completely.  People may think I'm crazy or obsessed, however those fight scenes between Neo and Agent Smith were taken straight out of Dragonball Z.  I sit down an watch this movie and only counting references to Dragaonball Z.  I lost count btw.
Anyway, if nothing else the fights ecxellently done, irritatingly frequent, but well choriographed.

*My 2 cents*

NEO IS DEAD, THE ONE IS NOT

It is an interesting point Showtime, but how do you explain when Trinity sees the sun in Rev? Her eyes are wide open, not just shock but in happiness and joy, but they are wide open none the less, even after living in all that so called darkness.

They still live in light at ZION, artificial light but light nonetheless. No doubt they are attuned to light and dark, the heat of the sun is the difference though.

Now when they are in the Matrix they are as a residual image. Their characteristics are downloaded into the Matrix and they can look however they want. No plugs, cool clothes, shades, the can FOCUS and appear to slow time, they can fight, the air is not real, the people are not real,..........THE SUN is not real. They know this, they know the truth and blah blah blah, it does not affect them. However some rules can only be bent as Morph tells NEO, however NEO shows otherwise. In their case they cannot fly, they cannot stop bullets, they cannot stop a sword. All i am saying, is that certain things can be manipulated in the matrix, the light from the sun affecting ones eyes is the least of those things.

Since when a good fight scene is irritating? I dont understand this. It actually sounds like a US critic quote (no disrespect to Showtime, just a general observation i notice about other posters i come accross). These are people that watched reloaded and walked out the cinema saying "How could he fly? People cant fly".......so actually their idea of the movie is meaningless. You watch the trailer to Reloaded when X2 came out and all you could think of was Matrix. NEO Flying, fighting 100 smiths, all sorts of cool stuff. The movie comes out it has MORE FIGHTING in the Burly Brawl (100 Smith fight) than the ENTIRE M1 (first Matrix) movie, actually almost 2wice as much and people are dissapointed..........i dont get it. The action alone, which was really just the icing on the cake was enough to make this movie worth watching. Actually the more i watch the trilogy the less action i want to watch BUT......the `100 Smith fight was hands down the best damn fight i have ever seen in a movie.

Trinity did not take long to die. She was dying, she told him what she wanted to and then she dead.....waz the deal. WHY she had to die should have been the question.

No, actually, Arucard has a point.
She got impaled by not one, not two, but THREE steel rods, one of which was very close to her heart. She took [and I timed it, folks] TEN minutes to up and die. Now, while I felt somewhat sad that the relationship between Trinity and Neo had to end on such a tragic note, I couldn't help but think out loud as I watched and heard her utter her final words:

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WILL YOU JUST UP AND DIE, ALREADY!? YEESH!!!

Seriously...who does take THAT long to die, considering the grievous damage done to her by the crash?

As to the reason why she died, I suppose it adds to the story that many have died in the war against the machines, all in the hope of peace, sacrificing themselves so that the One may triumph someday.
With Trinity no longer with Neo, it somewhat lingers in your mind even more just how many people have sacrificed themselves in the name of this war, and how important is is for the One to make sure those sacrifices were not in vain.

Well, if Neo isn't the One, then I suspect that sometime in the future, the Matrix will rear its head again.
