you want as much wattage as possible for stability. you need a NON STOCK FAN for the athlon. ..... you'll want a radeon ..... geforces can range from 10% faster than nvidia standard to 40% slower .

 HOME EDITION IS HELL! not sure about SP1.....

athlon xp 3000 is 333 fsb so it cannot fully use the DDR 400 , get 333...

 still cheaper if you build it yourself .

i'm upgrading next month.. i DID the research... stock AMD fans allow the  faster cpu's to reach above 50 centigrade core temp with any load... it will last a few years but it may not be 100% stable , and if your into overclocking it is baaaad .

 if your going to spend that much.... get a credit card and a sky box and you can build a BETTER one for the same price with moniter and speakers...

ok..not 100% stable?What is max temp. these Athlons allowed to reach?Compare that to 50 degrees celcius.U think u have ne point there?And the average guro like u and me..u really think we will keep a cpu for more than 3 years without pondering on an upgrade?Be honest> this isn't meanty for the overclocker and the average person not going to overclock a $150US+ processor.and jus so u know>overclocking voids the warranty and the fan was meant to operate within "legal" AMD limits which is natural core speed so don't say no thing bout stock is crap>stock was made for the intended normal operation of the CPU.

AMD processors can reach 60C without serious damage.... but a cpu can jump 15C under serious stress for extended periods ie. 3d rendering, video editing......

 it only costs 15USD for a good, quieter fan/heatsink.

 i know overclocking voids the warranty.... thats the point of getting a better fan/heat sink . Overclocking causes no damage to any part as long as the part is adequately cooled and the overclock is sane [ no more than 30% more than original speed on athlons, 50% on pentiums ]
 overclocking only causes instability in the system ONLY IF there is too much heat or not enough voltage available .
