The following statement is the sole opinion of Ryan Joseph Rodriguez, a.k.a. the New Era Outlaw, and not of GATT or anybody else that may have been mentioned in this article. Let's just set that straight.

Now, I've never really been a fan of cricket too much...heck, I can't tell an L.B.W. from a B.M.W., but I've got something to say concerning Lara's record, and his fan following.

The months, weeks and even mere days before Lara even came CLOSE to getting a record, people were lambasting him and the West Indies left, right and center. Heck, we see and hear about it everywhere -from a group of middle aged men in the maxi coming down from Port of Spain, to KPR's comics in the Blast. Point is, Trinidad thought very little of Lara, much less the West Indies. As SplitPsycho put it, several people already defected to other teams, seemingly fed-up of the West Indies preceived 'ineptitude'.

Fast forward to the present.
Lara has done his country proud, bringing back the run record back to our shores. As I watch the news, what do I hear?

"Lara is my boy, man! I knew he could do it!"
" Yeah man, we had to support we team!"
" Always had faith in him!"

And I shake my head sadly. And then I laugh my ass off at what utter hypocrites these people are. Now, this may sound somewhat generalised, but rest assured, I'm not referring to the people who always, and genuinely believed in the team, and Lara in particular, but weren't these the same people who just a while ago wanted nothing to do with Lara?
Seriously, weeks ago I would hear corny jokes about how the West Indies make so much duck they could have a stew, and now I'm subjected to this.

It almost reminds me of Biblical times, where Jesus rode into Jerusalem, celebrated as if he were the noblest of Kings [which He is], only mere days later to be jeered and brutalised by the same people.
I'm beginning to think not much has changed since then.

People, true support is to believe no matter what, despite the odds, and despite the slumps we see our heroes fall into.
Certainly, this is not to say that the team's efforts don't leave a lot of room for improvement - they really have a LOT to learn. But hearing such hypocrisy from people crawling out from the woodwork makes me sick.
As SplitPsycho said, crawl back to your English team or wherever your faith lies. Flattery will get you nowhere but being branded a genuine kiss ass.

I could only imagine that if Lara gets into a slump again, these people would turn on him faster than an ingested carton of milk, left in the sun for a week or so. It's just that much harder for him to keep up his icon status, and that is why we have to place our support for him and his team if we really want to call ourselves his true fans.

....and if you received this wake-up call from a guy who doesn't care beans about this sport, then you people really need to check yourselves.
I'm serious.
Take a cold shower, wipe yourself dry, watch yourself in that mirror and just look. Take a minute, a day, hell, take a week off if you have the time.
Just let it soak in that somebody who detests the sport has just called you people a bunch of freaking hypocrites.

If you are a fan and do support our heroes genuinely, then disregard this whole rant and continue doing what you do best...being a true, unbiased fan.

And that's all I've got to say about that.

that's right

Lara, the Fatima old boy

us Fatima old boys is bad

West Indies reclaiming the former glory
riping it from the hands of the English by force

I am not a criket fan, and I'm not really a Lara fan, but he is a fellow old boy
and after today, he is undisputedly the best he is at what he does

how can you not appreciate that....

ok lara is the BEST BATSMAN IN THE WORLD
no over rating in my book:

he is the first man to get over 300 twice
first man to get 400
first man to have two records
he holds the record now for test match cricket (400)
holds the record for first class cricket (501)
he is an excellent captain...... hoss, talent hoss
is is great
fo a man to be down and come from the bottom and rise to the top

well people right about consistency,

however we should wait and see how WI continues under Lara
note his performanced rallied them quite a bit that day

it is not that his capacity to be captain is in doubt
it is just that it is still remained to be seen if he will get into a flow with his teammates
to get them all consistent,
until then we must give him room to do his job and even make mistakes
