Next generation = the end for mod chips?
«

Last generation we saw console manufacturers, specifically Sony creating specific hardware and software types designed specifically to detect the presence of modchips and deny access to the game if there was one.
Of course the chip soltuion to this is a better chip that they can't detect.
However Microsoft seems to have stumbled onto the ultimate solution.I saw an old episode of the Call-for-Helpathon and Roger Chang said something that piqued my interest. He said that when you sign up for XBox Live the system checks your hardware for the presence of a modchip and if one is detected, your credit card and the serial number of your console is banned by Microsoft from play online.
Is this the golden solution to piracy that everyone has been waiting for?Using online detection technology means that any changes made to modchip hardware could easily be entered as a new search parameter in online scanners.Given that console online gaming is set to blow up next generation could this mean the end for modchips and thus piracy, will the pirates simply stay offline or could they possibly devise something to evade this?
Or will the death knell for piracy simply be the now very active COTT?

You can't kill piracy like that. Many local gamers WONT be on Xbox live even though they have the ton'o'bricks console. You have to go Online for that stuff to work. There is no requirement that you go online but regardless, it will still be hacked. Just give it time and you'll see.

But for every hacker that breaks the safeguards, the billions at MS and Sony will find a counter.A never ending cycle.
But also will interest in piracy remain high if online safeguards are used.Trinis might not go online but other will.Let no one kid themselves into thinking Nanan is an innovator. If activity dies elsewhere it'll die everywhere.
An interesting notion.

modchips now have a sleep function, when you enter sleep mode with the mod chip, you turn it off, so then you go play the game online and it wont detect it. to go into sleep i think you have to hold down eject for like 3 secs on the ps2. i not sure about the come around for the xbox though

How exactly does XBox Live work?
Are you using it in Trinidad and if you are...uh how does it work?
If not,is there anything that could not be duplicated in trini?

Yes, i am using it in trinidad. The XBOX is just like a computer...first u have to have high speed internet cause the XBOX used a ETHERNET PORT...then subscribe on ure XBOX, put in ure connection info(IP ADRESS etc.) and ure online. in terms of performance. not too bad considering were all the way out here, mechassault runs amazing with my connection whereas Project Gotham Racong 2 runs bearable... plus i have WDSL form CARIB-LINK...i hear that TSTTs DSL is supposed to b much faster. so with a connection like that...XBOX LIVE GAMES should run very smoothly !

I think you've convinced me Ronnie.Thanks a LOT.
I've been searching for ever for someone who has successfully connected on XBox Live so I'd know if to get it.
I'll start looking into it.
