The PC's seperatly recognise the existance of the Workgroup, but both say I don't have permission to use this network resource.

It seems the more User Friendly the PC becomes the more Tech Unfriendly it becomes! :(

ummmm.....you have the drives shared and stuff for file-sharing, right???

That happened for me before when networking a W98SE machine to a WXPPro system...so check that up first...make sure that your drives are set to be allowing the sharing of files...

I doubt it's that per say, but still, doesn't hurt to try :):P

I havn't had time to work on the problem.  They are both dual boot machines (98/XP).   So I'll set up the 98's first then try the XP again.  Thanks for the help.

when installing XP format your HD , get a boot disk, boot to dos, then run windows XP and chose the full install thingy, it will wipe the HD clean and install XP.

IF you upgrade you WILL have TONS of problems ranging from driver instabilities to unsupported software.
