I hate Arwen's expanded role too.
Suddenly Arwen ordering Aragorn to be given Anduril.
WTMC is this I hearin'!

Like Arwen have ranks to say that!She is fourth ranking is that family and it only have 4 in Middle Earth.

It's easy for allyuh to sit and bitch how the books don't follow the Movie, but can you all offer any constructive ways to present the story of the Ring in a manner that even ppl who had never heard of elves to understand??? Peter jackson was handed one of the toughest jobs in film history, to take an epic the size of LOTR and condense it to a format that would not only be understood by all members of the audience but also would be able to meet present movie standards of length and content. He is trying to make the Movies stand alone segments of the original story. Something even tolkien could not do, for he always meant for the books to be read
together.
I salute Peter Jackson for producing a movie that is not only satisfying to the newbies, but gratifying for even us old lore-masters who cannot be happier to see Tolkien's vision realized.

But you all are right about one thing......The simarillion needs to be a series....too many tales to be told.

I have very few complaints actually.

1)Arwen ain't all that.She don't have ranks.
2)Eomer in TTT.WTF?!Is there something wrong with Erkenbrand leading the reinforcements?
3)Theoden being turned into a wuss to make Aragorn look better.
4)Huorns being screwed out of a great scene in the movie release of TTT.
5)Faramir being turned into a greedy bastard and not one of the more farseeing people of the time.The TTT extended edition dealt well with this but still...

i have to say, Peter Jackson did alot of things wrong, but some things are completely pointless
like aragorn falling off a cliff to give arwen some air time
and Faramir unecassary attitude prob
Arwen, extended time, that whole saving scene when she carried Frodo to Rivendell
i really think he did the best he could've, i mean, WHY DID HE KILL HALDIR?
he didn't do nothing to anyone, why kill him
let him fade, please
he did a great job bringing us into the world of Tolkien, but from there he messed up stuff
i can understand Huorns being left out etc
still he shouldn't have added his own thing like the Wrags that don't even appear in TTT
he should've stick a bit more to the book, that's all i'm saying
plus he made the hobbits seem to play a lesser part in the attack of the Ents
they did their speech, and that was supposed to work, not him seeing the trees dead
he was complaining bout that before, he knew to some extent already, give the hobbit their due
that get me angry, cuz they actually initialized the attack, but it doesn't seem so as much
and a big moral in the story is that even the smallest things can be very powerful
and Pippin may be one of my fav characters
hell he probably is, and he seems to be making them stupider
i wanna see ROTK, he better let Pippin do what he has to do
Merry okay, he can't mess up Merry duty that bad anyway

Highly Anticipated: Lord of The Rings 3, Master & Commander
The old foogie movies: Calender Girls, Radio
Childrens Movie: Brother Bear, Haunted Mansion, Cheaper by the Dozen

The only movie that you really need to see is return of the King.

Peter jackson not messing up any of the characters, he is just trying to make them appeal to an audience 50 yrs after the original authors time. Don't worry about Merry and Eowyn's big scene, we know how that playing out already.

I agree with Smurf on the view of Peter Jackson making the movie...

You can criticize ALL YOU WANT....but yet, he was the only guy out there that had the true gonads of steel to undertake such a huge venture...

Fitting such a book into approx. 9 hours is VERY VERY difficult...plus he looked to add in more scenes lto increase the appeal of the movie in various aspects...

Remember, this was a REAL RISK he was taking for this movie....and largely he did pull it off...

BTW from what i heard, the one to look out for an Oscar nomination is Sam...he has some big parts in this movie

Oh yeah don;t look for any Oscars.From what I read the Academy don't look kindly on smash success movies or on fantasy films.From the last 15 years the only best picture films I remember seeing before they won were Beauty and the Beast,Schindler's List and Forrest Gump.
