How do I set a userprofile to load automatically in XP/2000?
« on: December 04, 2003, 11:07:10 PM »
I would like to find out how to get a certain profile to load in Windows 2000 and XP on its own without bringing up any login screen of any kind. XP being the priority here. I was able to set it to be done in 2000 during Setup, but i'd like to believe that there's another more official way in 2000 and XP. I was also able to do it in XP by just having Fast User Switching on, setting the Administrator profile inaccessible from the XP login screen, and having only one other enabled profile (one without a password), so i suppose that it just loads without bothering, i'm guessing. anyhow i also need pcAnywhere running so that disables the Fast User Switching login and sets it back to the 2000 login, so that's no longer available.

Can anyone help me figure out how to accomplish this, please?

Yep. You're right. In Network Identification In my computer properties click on network ID. Then select "this computer is for home use" then in the next screen select "windows always assume the following user is logged on" bla bla bla and fix up.
...and the fault is my own...

An alternative would be to get TweakUI, you'll need at least version 2.10.0.0 to get it to work with XP.

Among the MANY options, there's one called Autologon, here's the description it has:
Quote
Check the \"Log on automatically at system startup\" box to bypass the initial logon dialog box by using the values provided above.

The password is stored in encrypted form.

To supress autologon, hold the shift key while the system is starting.

Above it you have:
1. A checkbox for "Log on automatically at system startup"
2. An input box for "User name"
3. A "Set Password" button

I use it and it works like a charm.
