Book or Movie?
« on: November 12, 2003, 07:54:02 PM »
There are alot of movie rights, based on books, quickly being bought up by film companies. The question is, what do you prefer, the book or the movie? Starwars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter are all good examples. Post your opinion and tell me of any other book/movie examples there are.

The Movie!!I does hardly get any reading time....and instead of spending days behind a book.....see the whole story in less than 2 hours.I like books eh,but not novels. If I want something entertaining....you'll find me in the cinema.

For the examples of LotR and HP, I would have to go with the books because the directors almost NEVER do justice to the authors' work when they make it into a movie. The Harry Potter movies is such an example. I was greatly disappointed when I saw The Philosopher's Stone. But, I thought the LotR movies were well done, except that the detail that Tolkien put into his novels couldn't have been reproduced in the movies.

To me, a good novel would beat a movie any day.

If you do a movie first, then write the book, it will be retarded. They tried that already, and it failed.
Reading does anything but hinder ones imagination.
You give pictures to the characters mentaly, give then their own voilces.
Then the movie comes along, and the people look nothing like they are supposed to.
They did a good job with lotr, but a very mediocre one with Hp.

well no one needs to ask what MY vote was (BOOK!!!!)

and drug did u say that reading LIMITS the imagination???

on the contrary, i believe. when you read you have no choice but to create and image voice appearance and watnot of a character on ur own, in a movie, its so..bland...and no creativity is needed as it is set there for u

on another note, reading allows to to form an attachment or at least a view or opinion of FEEL of a character much differently to movies...well, that is tru but came out wrong...what i mean is that actors portray a character a certain way, general public view, but when u read it instead you will form your own uniquie view or watever of a character...

i hope that make sense....
